Alesi: A Passion for…Push Polling?
Remember how Maggie Brooks hired a sleaze-polling firm that used a push-poll to prepare the way for the FAIR plan last year?
Well, a new push-poll is out. Different firm, but same idea. A friend of mine got a pro-Alesi push-poll this week, from the “New York Survey Alliance”. This shadowy firm has done push-polling previously, for a Republican in an Assembly race in 2006, and for the Republican incumbent in the city of Troy’s mayoral race in 2007. There were very few demographic questions (presumably they knew she was a Dem woman– another Dem woman I know also got the same push poll), besides:
are you more conservative or liberal? (liberal)
how often do you vote Dem or Republican? (Dem)
what’s your religion? (Christian - protestant)
The poll, weirdly, smears an unnamed candidate (this is a rough transcript):
Would you favor a candidate who’s playing in politics because they’re bored with their job?
Would you favor a candidate who has a history of tax evasion and bankruptcy?
Would you say a candidate who supports Gov. Patterson’s plan to recognize gay marriages performed in other states reflects your values?
There was another question , something about 10%, but my friend couldn’t remember it. Oh, and this is funny– each time, the pollster acts surprised that the interviewee knows about Nachbar.
So there’s Alesi’s strategy for you: smear Nachbar and use gay marriage as a wedge issue. Classy.
How about we put together a poll about Alesi– one that uses actual facts? I’ll start:
Would you feel comfortable with a candidate who pushes a tax cap, that takes money away from schools and families but gives more to the wealthy, instead of the fairer tax “circuit-breaker“, even though the Property Tax Commission recently endorsed both?
Would you feel comfortable about a candidate who used taxpayer money to get re-elected?
Would you feel comfortable about a candidate who took credit for other’s work?
Would you feel comfortable about a candidate who appears to reward large donors with laws that benefit them directly?
Would you feel comfortable with a candidate who votes with the extreme right wing in the state Senate, and who proudly had Dick Cheney headline his state party’s convention this year?
Would you feel comfortable with someone who has one of the worst records in the Senate on issues benefitting the middle class?
Oh, and how would you feel about a politician who broke his leg while breaking into private property earlier this year?

Just to clarify, it’s not the Governors PLAN, it’s the law that the Governor is following. A law interpreted by the court. When will these people stop misrepresenting?
