I got polled…
30 minutes later, it’s done. No wonder why polls fluctuate. Do people actually wait for the entire poll to conclude? So, here is the deal.
The phone rings and a young voice on the other end says she is conducting a poll. She reads a script which I listen to carefully over the cracking phone line and I answer. I wondered, and was waiting for some sort of push poll, but I found the questions to be fair.
From what I remember, the poll started with questions about the direction of the country, is it right or wrong? What, about the economy, most affects me?- (health care and job security), a list of candidate positions and which ones I support. Which Presidential candidate ticket are you supporting? (they included Bob Barr) and which Congressional candidate (by party not by candidate name) in your district are you supporting?
Then there was the rest of the survey which was mostly fair, although some of the questions unfairly set-up false choices.
Questions about Airlines -
Should European Airlines be allowed to purchase more than a 25% stake in American flag carriers. What will be the benefit? What do you think the problems will be? Then there was this, how have your flights been? Great, somewhat good, somewhat bad and terrible.
Someone is conducting a poll to see if the American public supports Airline consolidation? I found it interesting that the question was European Airlines - excluding Asian airlines.
Questions about the biggest threat to the United States
Who is the biggest threat? I got to choose between North Korea, China, Russia, Cuba, Iran, Al-Qaeda, someone else. (John McCain didn’t make the list but that thought did cross my mind.)
Questions about Iran
Would you support a non-nuclear strike on Iran by the U.S. and its allies? I asked under which circumstances and the young lady simply repeated the question. I mean, how do you answer that?
Questions about Israel and Palestine
So how do you answer this? Should the US play a role in the Israeli / Palestinian dispute? Sure. OK, Who should they side with? Mostly Israel? Somewhat Israel, Somewhat Palestinians Mostly Palestinians.
Again - as long as both sides are treated fairly - but that wasn’t one of the choices.
Questions about, do you shop at Walmart?
Do you shop at Walmart - No.
Anyone out there getting any polling calls?
