Palin is collapsing… can we concentrate on McCain now?

According to the Research 2000/DailyKos tracking poll, Sarah Palin has gone from a +17 favorability rating down to a -4 in one week. The Daigeo/Hotline poll shows a similar decline in her favorability rating: +22 on Saturday turned into a +10 on Wednesday.

It is now very clear that the McCain-Palin convention bounce has faded in light of the Wall Street crisis and their confused responses about what- if anything- they would do to help. Palin is hemorrhaging. The more people know about her, the less they like her.

I think that the Obama camp has learned from these past few days that while McCain has a New York Giants offense, he also has a Miami Dolphins defense. So they have to keep possession of the metaphorical football and keep the McCain campaign on defense from now until the election. If it requires a few on-side kicks, then so be it. They have to do everything they can to prevent McCain from scoring another touchdown.

Two things jump out at me here:

    1. The Giants offense - much like McCain - is overrated.

    2. Despite their lack of talent, they did manage to win the Super Bowl, so that could be a bad sign.

I propose a change to this analagy. McCain is really more like the Cardinals offense. In addition to being from Arizona, their offense looks like it should be good on paper, but in reality is a complete trainwreck.

On the wires yesterday, Palin refuses to cooperate with the bipartisan investigation into Troopergate. She’s the “Nixon of the North.” After using her office to abuse power she is now refusing to cooperate with a bi-partisan investigation.
Nixon didn’t want to hand over tapes. Palin doesn’t want to hand over emails. She had even taken to using personal cell phones to conduct state business in an effort to thwart the investigation.
Nixon blamed those on his enemies list. Palin blames her enemies on the investigative committee, albeit bipartisan, that is secretly “being controlled” by Obama operatives. Who she claims are in a conspiarcy with the “elite media” in an effort to bring her down.

Enemies lists, secret media conspiracies, paranoia, Watergate, Troopergate, Nixon, Palin?

    Why Jeffersonian?

Oh I forgot you didn’t know the constitution wasn’t written by Jefferson. (Good ol’ Elmer history, makin’ it up as he goes along…)

Once again you miss the point by trying to deflect a poor argument.

The issue is her refusal to cooperate with an investigation by claiming she is the victim of a secret conspiracy, when in fact the investigation and requests for her emails were made well before her VP candidacy.

  14. Ms Dogood says:

Sure she’s innocent until proven guilty, but she’s also a public servant accountable to the people. This is a government of laws, not men. That’s one of the critical concepts that made this constitution so radically different from previous ones

Even today McCain announced that Palin’s husband will refuse to cooperate with this bipartisan committee. She and every offical need to be held accountable. That’s why the founders wrote the constitution the way they did. They understood when people are put into positions of power there will be those who abuse it.

It was telling when Palin gave her acceptance speech that she openly said she will disregard constitutional protections guaranteed to all people. Remember that? we’re not going to wait to read people their rights.

Sounds good, it got the crowd roaring. But think it through, the reason we have these rights is to protect us. What other rights are the republicans willing to trample on to pursue their agenda? As people who love America we should be very wary of those that have come to hate America.

    whtwtrdood,

As far as comparing Palin to Spitzer, you seem to really be grasping. When accusations were made against Spitzer, he stepped down. He didn’t impede any investigation. Palin and (some) republicans clearly are doing so.

Go back in time, well before anyone had ever heard of Governor Palin. Someone mentions “trooper gate”. Who comes to mind? Governor Spitzer stepped down as a result his relationship with a prostitution ring investigation, not because he supposedly had NYS Troopers looking into Joe Bruno’s affairs.

By the way, according to Michael Savage last night (I caught about 5 minutes of his ramblings while getting gas), it’s the folks at Lehman and AIG that brought down Governor Spitzer because he was about to blow the lid off of the very thing that is happening now. Interesting theory, I guess j ust not quite sure how Savage figures the ex-Governor was willingly committing adultery with a prostitute to set up his own downfall though.

  23. I agree with you, Palin’s legal troubles have nothing to do with party. In fact, the righties’ comments about Spitzer illustrates this. I continued to support Spitzer during that time, although I came to believe the allegation was serious, because I thought that taking on Silver and Bruno was more important.

But if he’d been picked as VP during the investigation, I sure would have expected a lot of scrutiny from the national press. I’m not sure I would have thought that he really was a good pick (obviously, now I know that he wouldn’t have been a good pick).
