Randy Kuhl to introduce a Bill to Nowhere
I saw this over at f/29 and thought I’d add some context. Remember when Congressman Randy Kuhl held a contest to come up with ideas? He called it “Fix Washington” project and recently announced the winner.
From Randy Kuhl’s blog
On May 16th, I announced the start of the “Fix Washington” Project in the district. Four months and 650 votes later, I am happy to announce the idea with the most votes was, ‘impose term limits on all members of Congress - U.S. House of Representative should be limited to six terms (12yrs) and U.S. Senators two terms (12yrs).’ That idea received 43% of the votes and surpassed the runner-up idea by 120 votes.
Later this week I will introduce this legislation as a Constitutional amendment on the floor of the house. As many of you know, in order for the amendment to be added to the Constitution, it must be ratified by a two-thirds majority of both houses of Congress and by three quarters of the states.
Look, we slam Randy Kuhl’s policies on a regular basis. He is tied to the GOP’s failed national policies and, well, that it’s good enough for me. However, let’s play nice for a minute. I’ll try and assume Randy Kuhl actually wants to support the voters in his district.
Per his blog -Our two term Congressman is going to INTRODUCE a constitutional amendment for term limits. Look, the U.S. Constitution has 27 amendments that have been ratified over the past 219 years. This proposal this is going nowhere fast - especially as a member of the minority party.
So this is the BEST EFFORT we can expect from Randy Kuhl? A constitutional stunt? A bill to nowhere?
Oh, by the way, we already have term limits - they are called Elections. They occur every November.
Instead of a a Constitutional Amendment for term limits, how about working to pay off the national debt, untangle us in Iraq, create jobs in America instead of China, give healthcare to all Americans. How about about providing for national security via policies to secure the food supply and water supply. Economic issues, security issues, and Health issues let’s focus on those for starters.
It just seems that there is more to do in Congress than introduce a constitutional amendment for term limits just because 650 people voted for it on your blog.
How about do your job Congressman Kuhl.
