Meet Sarah - the person who John McCain wants a heartbeat away from the Presidency
This from C-SPAN:
Palin is a social conservative who is strongly opposed to abortion and same sex marriage. In addition, she is pro-gun and wildly popular in Alaska.
In Palin, McCain has chosen someone with no experience on the national stage and no foreign policy experience. But she is a reformer, popular with conservatives and is considered tough enough to deal with what may come.
In the Vice Presidential debate, however, she will go up against Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who has personal relationships with heads of state and other world leaders.
With voters concerned about McCain’s age and his history of skin cancer, it remains to be seen whether they will be reassured by a woman with little to no experience on the federal stage who is a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Rep. Jim Clyburn, the House Democratic Whip, told South Carolina ETV Radio that the pick was “risky” and would prove to be as embarrassing to McCain as Dan Quayle was to former President Bush.
“I do believe that McCain has to do something to reshuffle the cards, shake up the establishment, do something unexpected and Governor Palin…has all the kinds of things that McCain might see as a way to shake things up,” Clyburn said. “I think it would be something similar to Dan Quayle…Dan Quayle proved to be sort of an embarrassment as a campaigner. Being thrust on a national stage like that could be very tough.”
Clyburn also compared the choice to Walter Mondale picking Geraldine Ferraro, a member of Congress who became the first woman on a national ticket, which he said was “absolutely awful.”
“And so I just think that it is very risky for McCain to do this, but it may be all he has left,” Clyburn said.
And for your viewing pleasure,
Sarah

McSame and Palin Comparison
So, McSame hopes to draw some disgruntled, Clinton supporters away from Obama?? Hmmm…okay that makes perfect sense: pick a right-wing ideologue, who is anti-choice, anti-environment, and a creationist. Brilliant. Sure, McLame, women will vote for you just because you picked woman VP.
In the words of Harry Reid (I believe he was describing the selection of John Roberts for SCOTUS) — this is a big, wet kiss to the extreme right wing of the party.
Oh, one other thing…that Vogue shot makes my eyes hurt.
I just received my daily Rochester Business Journal online edition, which headlines Forbes list of the 100 most powerful women in the world. Anne Mulcahy of Xerox is 10. I quickly scanned up the list, sure that John McCain had the good judgment to pick someone with at least Anne Mulcahy’s stature to be his VP…but alas, no Sarah Palin. Then I scanned down the rest of the list. I found the chairman of something called Biocon, the Owner of something called Hancock Prospecting, and even the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia, but Sarah Palin was nowhere to be found. Apparently, even Steve Forbes, and his Forbes Magazine, the self proclaimed “Capitalist Tool” couldn’t with a straight face rank Sarah Palin among the 100 most powerful women in the world. A heartbeat away….scary isn’t it.
I wonder where Obama was on the men’s list prior to his campaign?
They don’t have a most powerful men’s list that I can see so what does that say?

Here’s another interesting article, about the Palin “troopergate”scandal in Alaska. Not only are there questions about why she fired the head of the Alaska Public Safety Commissioner, but the person she appointed to succeed him had to resign after less than two months in office, following allegations of sexual harrassment. Joe Bruno should be all over this story any day now…unless jump starting his new lobbying career has him too busy…
Here’s the link to the article http://www.adn.com/monegan/story/478090.html
And Elmer, as to Senator Obama’s position on any Forbes list…the reality is that the American people have had nearly two very public years of a presidential campaign to vet Barack Obama. Those of us who are Democrats assessed his credentials and voted through a many month long primary process that he should be our nominee as President. Joe Biden was also part of that process, and while he was not nominated, he has many years of renowned service in the Senate with unmatched foreign policy expertise. Sarah Palin has not been vetted outside Alaska other than by a small selection committee. Any comparison ofPalin’s credentials with those of Senator Obama or those of Senator Biden, simply does not hold water.

FYI: The Vogue shot is not real. (in case anyone thought it was)
Under different circumstances I would say, “Thank you Captain Obvious”, but the circumstances aren’t right for that, so I won’t.
I added the link-thanks for the reminder
It wasn’t obvious to me. The head looked a little big for the body, but that’s what people said about John Tesh and Pat Sajak. And look how far they’ve gone.
I thought it was real when I first glanced at it.
So did I. That’s why I couldn’t say…..
[...] home from work today, I was listening, again to Ron Cooby. He was talking about, what else, Sarah Palin. He talked about her stance on abortion and how she arrived at her opinion. It makes no sense to me [...]
