Denver Dispatch 7 - Day 2, Sightings, Speeches, and More

Chuck Schumer

TWO DOORS DOWN
I am told that I am the last person on my floor to figure out who is staying in the suite two doors down with all the security detail, but figure it out I did. My fancy investigation work got us to title and first name: Governor David. I wish I could just figure out the rest…

ECHOS
Since there is limited seating at the Pepsi Center, it’s very important to get there early. The problem is that we have to get there 5 hours before primetime. I didn’t know this the first night and ended up in the nosebleeds, but last night I got it right. I arrived just after 3:00 and was on the floor in the middle of all the action. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that no words can truly describe. The problem however is sitting through 5 hours of speeches. I am without a doubt a political junkie, but even I was getting tired of hearing the same speech repackaged over and over again. I understand that it takes 7 times to hear a message before it registers, but honestly, by the 5th one I could have given the speech on my own. Echos: We need Barack Obama to get away from more of the same, no matter who we supported in the primary, we MUST support Barack Obama now, there are 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, “4 more months” NOT “4 more years” …

LUCK OF THE IRISH
Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I was in the lobby of the hotel and who RUSHES past me, but Senator John Kerry. Imagine just sitting there, minding your business and right past you walks the man who should be President! A few moments later, he rushed past again. I said “Senator, do you have a moment for a photo?” He laughed and replied “No, I am in the wrong hotel!”

SAY WHAT?
It was amazing to be sitting with the New York Delegation during Hillary’s speech. Any time she mentioned New York or Seneca Falls or Harriet Tubman, the crowd ROARED. When she walked on the stage, I wasn’t sure the applause was ever going to stop. Being in the middle of all that chaos made it difficult to hear what Hillary was saying. When I got back to the room and watched is on C-SPAN, I heard a lot that I had missed.

It was a proud time to be a New Yorker, especially since the two most dynamic speakers represent us; Hillary Clinton and Governor David.

SIGHTINGS
Being on the floor is unlike any experience ever. As I sat there, or walked around, I saw so many notable people that I began to lose track. After a while you look at people and think “I KNOW who that is, who is that????” I even snapped photos of people who looked familiar thinking I would identify them later. At one point, I was walking across the floor and someone handed me their camera and said “Will you take a picture of me with the Senator?” I said “Sure, as long as you return the favor.” So, now I have a picture with a Senator, but I have NO IDEA who it is.

Below are pictures I took of various people, see if you can name them!!!!

Well, I know who #2 is cause I dreamed about him a couple of weeks ago. We were having a conversation at netroots and I asked if I could interview him and he came back into the room with a whole bunch of pundits, including Molly Ivans (posthumously) so I could ask them all my questions and then I woke up-no questions answered, but thanks anyway Wolf.
#3-come-on, get serious. Like, is there anyone who reads this blog who doesn’t know the Doctor, Governor, Chairman-HoDe the great!?
#4, the shot is too far away, but the person in black standing behind the guy in white, I think is me. Oh, wait, I’m not there. What was I thinking?

#6 (Joe Scarbrough) has been ripping on bloggers all week and frankly I’m a little tired of it.
