How would you describe Michelle Obama’s speech last night?
Just waiting for Clinton’s convention speech and killing time trolling the D&C blog I came across this post by Community Blogger Petrena Hayes. Check out this passage.
Michelle Obama’s speech was well delivered. I couldn’t find the word I was looking for and then one commentator said it…”hokey”. I mean, her goal was to humanize Obama and show everyone they were just like “us” and I think she succeeded, but to me it was a little too personal. Some people love that type of speech though.
Um, Hokey?
The back and forth in the comments are pretty good with the other Community Blogger Deepak Seth and Rotten expressing strong views.

Petrena Hayes calling someone hokey. That’s rich.
A woman who thinks the whole world is just like what she sees at the end of her driveway!
Someone should get on that thread and clue her in that Cindy McCain isn’t very likely to reminisce about her felony conviction for stealing narcotics from a non-profit agency and getting caught lying about it. That’s not talking about her problem, that’s talking about her criminal record.
The only thing that kept her out of prison was her money and influence.
Let’s see, Michele works hard, gives up a good paying job to give back to the community and keeps her nose clean. Cindy is handed every opportunity, steals narcotics and uses her immense inherited wealth to get high priced attorneys to defend her and work out a plea bargain to avoid prison.
Yeah, pretty hokey Petrena.
I wonder if dear Petrena has any idea what the real world is like? That if that was one of her kids who got stealing narcotics they’d be in jail.
Clueless.
I think “hokey” is the word used to describe someone who has not lived their life cynically enough, or who others may find inspirational.
