Looks like no art center if there is money available. Duffy holds the cards. let’s see how he plays them

From City News

After several years of saying that he would not support Renaissance Square if it didn’t include a downtown arts center, Mayor Bob Duffy said in an interview earlier this week that he could support the project without it.

[snip]

A massive project that does not seem to have the enthusiastic support of the RBA -area’s CEO’s were “cool” in their response to a recent presentation on Renaissance Square to the Rochester Business Alliance, Duffy said - the city’s history of underestimating operating costs for big projects, and Governor David Paterson’s push for extreme cost-cutting measures are among Duffy’s biggest concerns with Renaissance Square.

You know where I am with the project. Start over. I don’t think the money will be there to sustain it.

Time to move on… there is zero demand for this project, except from politicians who enjoy reaping money from Albany/Washington, plus get photographed at the ground-breaking and ribbon-cutting ceremonies. MCC doesn’t need it, they can continue where they are or find other downtown space at a better price. RTS doesn’t need it, the bus system will actually run more efficiently if we leave it on the street. The whole rationale at the outset was to marry these unrelated things together as a method to pay for the performing arts center… so it makes no sense to proceed without the theater. Performing Arts Center is an concept which is now over 20 years old, and distorted to the point that it no longer resembles the original idea. Move on.

we probably do need some kind of bus hub in the center city especially as commuting patters start to change. — though it need not be a part of this project
