Dan Hall asks tough questions. Can we deliver?
Sadly, I don’t read Dan Hall of the Messenger Post often enough and when I do I feel guilty for all the good articles I’ve missed. He delviered a wonderful column about the energy crisis that ultimately leads up to this conclusion
There is no such thing as cheap, clean, and plentiful energy. Worldwide demand will stoke the competition, peaceful or otherwise, far into the future. We need to get what oil we can at home, but Democrats are correct that we need huge investments, public and private, in conservation, new technologies, and public transportation. We must transform suburbs to make them less dependent on cars. Families have to find ways to conserve energy beyond just screwing in a few compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Do we as a nation have the stomach for solving our energy problems by changing our behavior? Look at what Randy Kuhl and McCain/Bush/GOP philosophy is peddling.
Just now, as I write this, I got a recorded phone call from our own Rep. Randy Kuhl, peddling the fiction that we can drill our way out. The U.S. Department of Energy says we cannot. The United States owns only about three percent of the world’s reserves — yet every year, Americans account for 25 percent of global consumption. The Republican claims are simply unconscionable.
Randy Kuhl = Status Quo
