A matter of Priorities

The State budget is in trouble, Monies are cut. Does anyone know if the $2 million dollar St John Fisher law school earmark was affected? I’m assuming it is not affected. As I’ve said before, it is a matter of priorities.

Meanwhile, State cuts $2 million dollars from kids:

The Rochester Surround Care Community Corp., formerly known as the Rochester Children’s Zone, was dealt a major blow Wednesday as state legislators looking to trim budget fat voted to cut its $4 million funding stream in half.

The significance of the reduction is difficult to overstate for the fledgling social services organization, which has received to date only $700,000 of its original grant but has committed to disburse more than $1.1 million to nonprofits in the impoverished northeast section of the city

I’m just wondering that if you want your kid to have a chance to grow up and become a lawyer - might want to reconsider the priorities.

The St. John Fisher law school evaluation never made any sense. Let’s hope they kill it before a single state penny is spent on it.

We don’t need more law schools producing more lawyers in this state.

We need more physicians, engineers, software programmers, and scientists.

The only reason for SJF to have a law school– and I’ll admit I’m guessing here– is to build up a more affluent alumni body to donate to the school. Oh, and I’ll guess the tuition dollars would be nice to have, too.

“There is a glut of attorneys in New York, and there always will be,” the president of Hanover Legal Personnel Services, Jack Zaremski, said in an interview. The total number of lawyers in America is now about 1.14 million, according to the American Bar Association, and more than one in 10 live and work in New York State.”

    davesnyd nailed it.

i think rochester needs a law school. even syracuse has one and they are half our size. its embarrassing. HOWEVER, if the fish wants a law school, they, as a private college, can pay for their own study. i don’t think a financially unstable state should be giving any money to private colleges when they routinely cut/underfund the public ones they are directly responsible for.

  4. [...] Care subsidies were cut. Remember the dispute between Brooks and Paterson? Then the Childrrens zone funding is cut. Enter private sector. Remember the YMCA providing funding for 65 kids? Well, [...]
