Come and wake me up-you know I’m not too hard persuaded

Persuasion phoning, door to door canvassing, candidates meeting up with voters at public events, people to people, neighbor to neighbor-it’s the new way to run thanks to our fearless Democratic leader, Chairman Dean. The NYT has an article talking about this new strategy.

While Mr. Obama could prove beneficial to House candidates by increasing turnout in urban communities and raising enthusiasm among young voters in college towns, party officials believe an association with known Democratic candidates down the ticket could pay off for Mr. Obama among people who frequent Wal-Mart and passed up college to work.

Planning began last November, and the committee has already spent $9 million, as much as was invested in the entire previous campaign season. Seven staff members oversee the national operation, compared with one in the 2006 cycle. The Democrats hope to record at least 13 million personal contacts with voters in 50 House districts before they are through.

The Internet may be the rage, but strategists on the ground say land lines, shoe leather and stamps remain the best ways to reach specific voters like the Indiana residents in the sights of the Hill campaign.

“We hope to call them three times and knock on their door at least two times between now and Election Day,” said Jonathan Hall, who is coordinating field operations in Mr. Hill’s district for the Indiana Democratic Party.

That’s right, just like Howard said-you’ve got to ask for their vote and this weekend, we have the opportunity to do just that for Eric Massa. From the Massa Campaign:

This week our major goal is to set up phones for persuasion phone banking. We are looking for folks to donate working phones to be used in the Corning office. If anyone has any information regarding working land line phones that can be used in the Corning office please contact Dan Mulligan. We will start phone banking on Tuesday, August 19. All are welcome to come and help us start this large process.

Available to volunteer? This Saturday, August 23, we will be canvassing the Corning area. We are meeting at the Corning Headquarters (79 West Market Street; (607) 936-3098) at 9:30 am. Bring friends and family to come inform and persuade voters on their choice this election! Thanks all.

Tell me the walking is superb. Not only tell me, but persuade me. You know I’m not too hard persuaded.
