What’s Goin’ On - RT News Roundup 8/17/2008

Fun stuff:

  • Parma has been wrestling to get a library, like Mendon has been. (Can Dems make it an election issue like they did in Mendon?) Changing Parma has a proposal for Parma’s library that they could use some input on.
  • Jason O reports on a cool way to support local eats and local cinema at the same time.
  • Moderate Urban Champion, in a way, gives his intelligent, wonky response to Andrew Stainton’s trashing of RenSquare we wrote about. Here it is:

It is high time, as long as there is energy left to build with, that we get serious about ‘building to last’ and ditching the baffling architecture of modernism. The best streets in the world are long and continually retail fronted (see Yonge Street, Toronto). Designated forced ‘destinations’ often come off as gimmicks, whereas a Main Street lined with both necessity and entertainment becomes a de facto daily subconscious destination.

  • Burner Trouble humorously reports on Honda’s cheap 60 MPG car coming out this fall, and how unbelievably expensive it is these days to drive a power boat from Irondequoit bay to the Genesee river.
  • Funny (careful, contains a swear or two):
