D&C Coverage on Brighton residents’ concerns over huge development project
Just a quick post - I’ll have more over the weekend with video and pictures. I’ve other obligations today.
Kate Perry over at the D&C wrote a nice article about the protest. Here is the net of it. I added the emphasis.
Costello said the development would be about 1½ times the size of the current Clinton Crossings medical park but spread out over a larger area.
Costello will need zoning changes to build the development, and Lenoe said the town should bargain hard for more green space if it decides to rezone for Costello. Under a proposed agreement, Costello would give the town four acres from his park for a linear park.
“(The proposal) is more than double the density of office space and retail space that the 2000 comprehensive plan calls for, and right across the street you can see an empty office building,” Lenoe said.
Lenoe also is concerned about the impact water runoff from the 3,000-plus parking spaces would have on drainage and the environment.
So we have empty office building yet we need to build more?
I was at the protest - and no one I spoke to was against building or development (personally, I’m not) they simply wanted a common sense approach something that maximizes our town resources.
But back to Lenoe - he mentions water run off. So here is the project.
See all those parking spaces? The water need to be channeled somewhere as opposed to simply draining into the ground. There are a lot of parking spaces.
Use what we have available to us now before we build new. This dense project doesn’t fit Brighton.
