LTE about the the Troop escalation in Iraq

Check out this LTE in today’s D&C.

Surge ’success’ doesn’t redeem us

The claim that the “success” of the surge is an affirmation of our presence in Iraq is baffling. We invaded Iraq on the pretext of nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, unsubstantiated rumors of terrorist support and the claim we were bringing democracy to a country under the thumb of a brutal dictator. If the final claim is true, then I can only wonder why even worse tyrants have been ignored. No matter how you paint the invasion of Iraq, it still amounts to one of the most ill-advised and un-American acts since the Vietnam War.

So is the surge a success or failure?
