Democrats say Dinolfo warned of breach a year ago
The Monroe County Democratic Committee has a statement out saying that County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo was warned of problems with the county’s online system a year ago…and did nothing.
Rochester, New York - August 7, 2008. Despite her claims to the contrary, Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo was advised a year ago that Social Security numbers and other sensitive information are posted on the clerk’s portion of the Monroe County web site, Democrats said today.
Democrats demanded that Dinolfo either remove the offending documents immediately or block that portion of the site where the information can be accessed, and announced legislation aimed at correcting these oversights in the clerk’s office.
In a letter to Dinolfo dated July 10, 2007, and addressed to Dinolfo, Monroe County Legislator Travis Heider, D-Brighton, wrote that he had been contacted by a constituent who “is very concerned about privacy standards relating to documents on file at the County Clerk’s Office. The concerned constituent contacted Legislator Heider after discovering his Social Security number had been posted on the Monroe County website as part of a series of mortgage documents sent to the County Clerk’s office over 6 years ago.
Given the urgent need for action to protect taxpayers from potential identity thieves, Democrats have introduced Legislation that, if passed, would implement their demands.

More proof that what you see is what you get. She still has a face that belongs on Mt. Rushmore, and an attitude to match. And where does Mommie Maggie stand on this? How come the “CEO of the County” hasn’t made a statement? Where is Rev’em up Reilich? Probably loading his guns with buckshot and gathering up some General Lee car types to go run over Democrats somewhere in the county.
Yee ha - it’s “how dare they question us” month at the county office building! Love the fact that Hasman stood outside of her office to make the announcement. I wonder what other surprises Hasman will have before November hits. This is only August. My crystal skull shaped like John Di’s head tells me the best is yet to come!

This is completely galling. How can Cheryl be so cavalier about publicly posting Social Security numbers? And, what’s most appalling…the records are still available (screaming and hitting head against wall)!!! She knows that personally identifiable information of constituents is available online, has known for a year and still does NOTHING?? This must be stubbornness. I suppose that she can’t let anyone out there know that Hasman is right about the seriousness of the situation. And, she has the nerve to blame him for political grandstanding.
I know something bigger and better on Cheryl. I think I’m gonna call Hasman and let him run with it. This should be fun!

what I want to know is why the hell are they redacting SSN info while the site is live? take it down, fix it, then put it back up. this just goes to show how unqualified she is for the job.
that said…….why didn’t MCDC continue to pound on her if this was known last year? why are we just seeing press releases now that there is a campaign?
don’t get me wrong, I’m impressed with Hasman’s credentials and think he will make an excellent CC. BUT I am quite disappointed that MCDC dropped the ball on this one. or was it that Joe called for his crew to sit on this until the campaign???
this letter revelation just reinforces the GOP claim that this is a purely political move and winds up (somewhat) taking the focus off the fact that Dinolfo is 100% in the wrong here.
