Independence Party Chairman asked to resign - Davis payoffs cited
The executive committee of the county party asked for the resignation of Colon and his wife, Blanca, after reports surfaced that Jack Davis, a Democratic congressional candidate in the 26th District, paid Blanca Colon $5,000 in consulting fees.
Apparently the Independence party didn’t buy the “just friends” explanation, of course, neither did we. More from the article.
Colon will also be asked tonight to sign a statement that bars him from being a member of the Independence Party’s state executive committee forever. Colon has resigned his post on the state committee as well, Schiemann said.
City News has a write up as well.
Good for the Independence Party.

I’d be interested to learn how many other candidates have given a check to Mrs. Colon during other election cycles.
Don’t know about that, Andrea, but the chairman of the Erie County Independence committee is under scrutiny because HIS wife received a $5,000 consulting fee from Jack Davis.
I’m sensing a pattern here.
Not sure about that, Andrea, but there’s more to this story. The chairman of the Erie County Independence party is under scrutiny because HIS wife received a $5,000 consulting fee from Jack Davis.
I sense a pattern forming.
It’s called insurance. Just in case he can’t win the primary, he can “buy” another line to play on.
Jack Davis belongs behind bars.
RNews is reporting that this Colon resigned from the Chair AND the party.
And to think, Colon was supposed to bring change after Porto. Colon has Napoleon complex
Gotta love the “what’s in it for me”/Dependence Party. What a predictable story.
Andrea, you are right to ask the question about other candidates and you should go even further, asking about local political parties that have had some very suspicious dealings with Mr. Colon. The Republicans have gotten very tight with Rafael Colon over the last couple of years. It makes me wonder just how much income the Colons have taken in trade for certain endorsements. This is a refreshing change for the Independence Party. Perhaps another party is waking up and ‘cleaning house’. We can only hope.
Golisano needs to come out publicly and say “this is not my party any longer” so people who think they are registered to a party that endorses independent thinkers come to realize that it’s just a party that mostly endorses incumbent republicans.
Heck, I expect half the people registered with the Independence Party think they registered “Independent” (meaning no party selection). The IP should re-invent itself or go away.
He did that years ago. Where were you?
I doubt they’ll give the indie line if he loses the Dem primary. How bad would that look?
