30-0: Bill Press says Progressive radio silenced on public airwaves
Bill Press was the keynote speaker at a Greece Democrats fundraiser last night here in upstate New York and Rochesterturning was there, represented by Stlo7, ladkiddo and yours truly. Here are some of my notes, more later:
Press said he and his colleagues went over the figures and the Rochester area now will have 30 hours of conservative radio and 0 (ZERO) hours of progressive radio when WROC switches to a sports format soon. He said it is “no coincidence because they don’t want the truth to be told between now and November.” Press said that nationally there is 9 hours of right wing talk for 1 hour of progressive talk. 30-0, well, it’s hard to have a more warped score.
Clearly, progressives are losing the radio war and Press encourages us all to “Raise hell.” He went on to say “If they’re gettiing licenses that we own then we should get a fair share. Louise Slaughter is leading the effort to bring back fairness. Public air waves are supposed to serve the public, the general interest, not just the conservative audience.”
Who is this “they” that are trying to silence the Progressive Radio Voices. The people in charge of the Corporations that own the vast majority of the radio stations in this country care about one thing, and only one thing, profits. They would broadcast hog futures reports 24 hours a day if there was money to be made in it.
If you recall, Air America Radio went on the air with the sole purpose of influencing a Presidential Election. It didn’t happen, but nobody stood in their way while they tried.
As has already been posted, radio is changing with the advent of satellite and podcasting. Find folks with deep pockets that believe in the cause and let the marketplace decide.
…or wait until Barack Obama is your President, and listen to what-a-Rush Limbaugh whine and piss 24/7 while he pockets 4.5 million of YOUR “ear” marked dollars.
Yeah, conservative radio…it’s a real joke. But I will predict now…(rubbing hands over crystal ball shaped like John Di’s head) that the joke WILL be on you.

The only radio I listen to is either 104.9FM or, depending on what part of WNY/CNY I happen to be in on any given day, one of the FLN Stations. Since I actually financially support the stations I listen to, what on earth are you talking about?
Instead of using your middle finger while driving, you ought to try aiming it at the radio select button and trying something new on for size. Might help improve your outlook.
