Waiting forNancy Pelosi at Netroots Nation (with Al Gore)

Update 3 -

Oh my God -Al Gore just walked in.

Watch the stream here.

Check out http://www.wecansolveit.org/

I’ll get pictures up as soon as I can.

Update 2 -

Speaker Pelosi was just asked about universal broadband access and net neutrality, She discussed it briefly - she is not pleased with the telecom position on Netneutrality. (I missed the rest) but in her explanation - she said -

“If it isn’t universal it isn’t fair.”

Just a thought - How about that as a frame to discuss all things - like, oh I don’t know - Healthcare,

It is back to values people!

Update 1: Nancy is on now - You can watch it streamed here.

She received a powerful resounding standing ovation. Speaker Pelosi’s retort? Thank you - I hope that spirit continues during the Q&A. WOW.

There are many things we don’t agree with the speaker but at the end of the day - she is here and she is going to extend the Q&A. She could easily have simply phoned in the visit. She didn’t. (Yes, I’m still pissed about FISA).

Speaking of which she just got asked what the gain of adding Telecom immunity.

She just said - it is one thing to deal with the administration but 17 Senate Democrats crossed over to send the bill to the House. So as soon as that happened - we now were dealing with Democrats and the Administration.

This is an example of more BETTER Democrats. Sounds like this is about process as opposed to what is right - what we believe to be right. That conflict needs to be better articulated to folks like me.

Regardless - she maintains - the bill is better than the original Senate bill.

Original post:

We are in the Speaker Pelosi Session waiting for the Speaker to arrive. Should be interesting - Code Pink was here passing out don’t take impeachment off the table literature.

Sitting across from Hal Bidlack running in CO-5 and we are just chatting about the future. He is a really nice guy. Fellow veteran all that. Big ideas for Colorado.

That is what I like about this place - you have access to the candidates who are here.

i see no excuse for Pelosi’s FISA vote. Grass-roots democrats should not be hero worshipers, but demand accountability and genuinely progressive social policy. I am rather disappointed with Pelosi, who for two years has run away from challenging Bush out of fear of criticism of democrats.

Why should we really believe things will be different with the slightly more left version of the corporate party in power.

I agree. That is what involvement and expanding the base hopefully will produce. I’ll interpret your use of the term “Hero worship” as a general comment and not in implication that the folks in the room were pleased with Speaker Pelosi’s actions with regards to FISA. They weren’t.

More and better Democrats to help the “real” Democrats, currently there, do their job better supporting us.

[...] there was profound moments when we realize why we (active political participants) do this - Listening to Al Gore talk about Climate change or Nancy Pelosi discuss Congress [...]
