NY-26: Powerful grassroots momentum in Powers campaign, strongest fundraising quarter so far…
over 3,900 donors to date contributing to the Powers for Congress Campaign, 67 percent have given $50 or less and almost 80 percent have given $100 or less. His campaign raised $272,000 in the second quarter making it his strongest quarter yet.
The Powers for Congress Campaign has raised more than $870,000 overall and has more than $488,000 cash on hand.
And there’s also the growing list of endorsements Powers has earned:
the second quarter, beginning in April and ending in June, brought the endorsements of the following groups:
* Working Families Party
* New York State AFL-CIO
* Western New York Council of the Communications Workers of America
* Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 22
* National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 3
* UNITE-HERE, Rochester Regional Joint Board
* International Longshoremen’s Association
* International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots
* Sheet Metal Workers, Local 46
* New York State Council of Machinists
Powers himself had this to say:
“Everyday Western New Yorkers are chipping in $25, $50 or $100 to bring real leadership and real change to Washington…Our campaign has shown it can compete against millionaires. As the momentum builds with our strongest fundraising quarter yet, I am confident the voices of everyday Western New Yorkers will prevail over the dollars and political stunts of our opponents.”
The momentum seems to be with Powers and the Powers Platoon, exemplifying grassroots at its finest.

Powers also turned in by far the most petition signatures to get on the ballot. I think it would be very interesting to examine where the 3 Democratic candidates went to get signatures. I’m willing to bet money that Powers is the only one who circulated nominating petitions in all 7 counties that make up NY 26. That’s because he has people who back him at the grassroots all over the district. That is far from true for the other two Democrats. I know for sure that neither bothered with Livingston County, while Jon got some 700 signatures in a small rural county the other candidates dismissed as not worth their time (or money for paid signature collectors).
Pessimist - did all 3 officially make the ballot?
I don’t know yet. Davis turned in a surprisingly small number of signatures, but I haven’t heard anything to suggest he won’t be on the ballot. Kryzan turned in more, and I haven’t heard anything to suggest her ballot status isn’t safe. Of course, Powers turned in twice as many signatures as either of them.
Good for Powers for getting so many signatures. If you check the filings - against Davis has only himself as monetary support — $ 3 million =’s on vote — Kryzan tried to inflate her numbers by giving a large sum (about $60 K) to her own campaign. Half of Lee’s money has come from himself — even with a big 1st time fundraisier and being the only Republican candidate.
Interesting how Powers is the only one able to raise money from supporters!!
More evidence of Jon’s grassroots support.
