NY-26: Powers campaign on Davis’ Stump at the Pump
In a move that shows just how contentious the race for NY-26 is going to be, John Gerken, campaign manager for Jon Powers, the endorsed Democrat for Congress in NY-26, issued the following statement today:
“Jack Davis is using an election year gimmick to try and buy votes one gas tank at a time. He claims he has no intention of buying this election but today his hypocrisy proved otherwise. With up to $35 million in Big Oil and energy interests, Jack Davis has every incentive to help Big Oil’s bottom line. He is more beholden to oil companies than the voters he is trying to buy off.”
Gerken also proved his point by releasing the following spreadsheet of Davis’ investments:

So it never was a “I’m a rich guy, and I feel sorry for all you poor people…” gimmick.
It was always a “Thanks for paying $4.25 a gallon fools! And you wonder why I’m rich” gimmick.
Sweet.

It was a “here’s cheap gas cause I will spend the millions I’ve made off of big oil to fill my pockets back up” gimiich
Big oil isn’t the problem, big government is. Big government = Jon Powers.
Seek professional medical attention. Then look up grassroots in the encyclopedia. See the picture of Jon Powers? That’s LEADERSHIP = end of big government.
Remember - it was just a tank of gas. And in the end, who can you blame for the price of ALL fuel?
Bush/Cheney/Kuhl/Reynolds/Pataki/Bruno/Brooks/Reilich/Alesi/Nozzolio = Big Government At It’s WORST.
If you have $0 in investment, how do you make $50K in income? Check out the BP line.
Magic.
Maybe it is current value (he sold it before the report) and last years income.
I’m still thinking it is magic.
Is there any election law prohibiting this kind of gimmick?
I’m guessing not. I don’t think Davis was offering money directly in exchanges for votes. Something party bosses did on election day in the various party machine run places.
Don’t get me wrong - this is a gimmick plan and simple.
The questions will be how will this be reported on the FEC disclosures. I suppose we have to wait until September for that.
Davis was not offering money directly in exchange for votes. Instead, he stood a few feet away from the gas pumps and said “I am asking for your vote and your ideas” (on his press release which I have in hand) and then he said “I ask you to join the fight to lower prices at the pump” even as he profited off of the sale of gas in his stocks.
I was concerned about the report in the paper that Jeff McCann and the Greece Government provided aid for this event. Perhaps it was just innocent but I recall a story here on Powers’ marchers being bullied at the Memorial Day Parade.
Can anyone clarify this
