Conflicting Information On 950 AM’s Format Change

A source who spoke with a contact at Entrecom says that the idea of a format change has been floated, but no decisions have been made.  Their advice?

One thing seems certain.  If people listen to the station, now is the time to call and let them know you are there.

Another good idea would be for those who like the station to advertise on it, or support Democracy Now! on WROC.    I am sure that, if they are talking about a change it is because they can’t sell any advertising on the station.  The advertising rep for WROC is Chris Argento and his number is 719-2619.  Currently advertising on WROC is dirt cheap, and you can support Democracy Now! for as little as $20 per minute ($100/week).   They are happy to assist with your message, and meet your scheduling requests.  People can support the programming they like and promote their business or organization to the progressive crowd at the same time.  That’s how the radio business is run.

I bought a camera a couple weeks ago from Rowe photo because they advertised on 950.  Since we don’t have large corporate conservative entities funding us like they did O’Reilly and others with “wingnut welfare” in the 70’s and 80’s, maybe it’s time for us to step up and connect advertisers to 950 AM.

This info on 950’s plans conflicts with what the Bill Press folks heard, so we’re going to try to get a definitive, official statement from Entrecom and 950 tomorrow.

I’m relieved to hear that 950 may be maintaining its progressive talk format. It’s my regular station (although I can’t listen after dark here in Livingston County), and it would create a huge void for me if it abandoned its lineup months before the election. I sometimes disagree with what I hear on the station, but it’s never boring. While I commend WXXI on being able to cover things in depth, their choice of topics often does not interest me. As a hardcore political junkie, 950 WROC fills a need for me and, I suspect, a lot of the people who read this site. Thanks for following this story.

Ok - how does a nationally syndicated show misinterpret the words we are changing our format?

I spoke to the Bill Press Guy personally (yesterday) and that is what the message was.

So,
Either the Bill Press Guy is wrong.
The Entercom Guy who told the Bill Press Guy is misinformed,
Or your’s truly heard it incorrectly. My money is on #1 or #2.

There are other possibilities but someone is wrong here.

What are the chances that one hand of Entercom is not speaking with the other hand of Entercom?

Or a decision has been made and someone is stalling? Like all those announcements when companies merge that there will be no job cuts?

I’ll see if I can get a comment from my contact.

I called yesterday and the guy who answered the phone said that they were planning on changing format. he was not an executive. I was forwarded to a voice mail but didn’t leave a message. Take that for what it’s worth.

Just to add to this conversation -

When stations change their format do they really want it announced? I mean why endure grief from the listeners.

I reconfirmed the story with my contact and have an additional person to speak to from the Bill Press side.

I’m now thinking we uncovered something that Entercom didn’t want disclosed.
