In Case you missed it…
Welcome to the busy holiday week edition of in case you missed it.
MCC President and Board of Trustee Selection
MCC gets a new interim President. They break with GOP requests and actually appoint someone with, um, well, what would be good to have if you were a Community College President interim or otherwise? Say it with me people - experience, something Bill Smith is lacking. Something lost on Richard Guon who when asked why “such experience seemed more valuable for an interim than for a full-time president”. If ignorance is bliss Richard Guon is quite peaceful.
Then there was the issue of appointing a new Board to Trustee. Howard Konar replaces Michael Nuccitelli. The comments section of that post hosts a good debate - certainly worth a click.
It was a good week for Jon Powers
First off he earns the NYS AFL-CIO endorsement. Labor, trade and related issues would be on the mind of a labor organization. What is Jack Davis’ signature issue - trade? Meaning - Job Powers in the AFL-CIO worldview is correct on trade. Jack Davis isn’t.
but that was last week’s news. One of his primary opponents is rumored to drop out, he lands additional labor endorsements and gets most importantly on the DCCC’s red to blue list meaning national Democratic support. Yes, that DCCC who says they stay out of primaries but for exceptional circumstances.
State Senate race wrap up
First off Tom Golisano drops a money bomb. He ran for governor and failed a couple of times and, as I recall, sided with State Republicans before but has called repeated for “reform” . Now he is dropping several million dollars across the state into Key races. Hell hath no fury…
Grievous Angel scores an interview with Phil Jones Democratic Candidate for the 147th State Senate Assembly district.
Dollinger takes on Skelos well, blasts might be more appropriate.
NY-29th. Lots going on here - none of it good for Randy Kuhl
First off Eric Massa, the congressional candidate looking to send Congressmen Kuhl packing released his first Radio ad. Meaning he is starting to purchase air time. it is early July.
The Bush Legacy Tour Stops in Rochester. No, we aren’t talking satire from the Onion, we are talking actual results and how America has been impacted. Liz and Roger will tell you how they are impacted and here is some local media coverage. My favorite, of course, is Julie Blust who nails it with focus on philosophy over the person. I mean it isn’t like I haven’t haven’t argued that before. Julie you rock.
Randy Kuhl visits the D&C Editorial Board. No positive press there.
Then there was more non-positive press over the VA charade that passed for a press conference where the big solution to problems Randy Kuhl has helped enable specific to Veterans are going to be solved by a caucus. Here is some video of the press conference and what veterans in the audience get ignored.
Then there was this this mailer nonsense from Randy Kuhl. it just doesn’t make sense. I mean looking at the number if the pipe dream the Republicans are trying to shove down our throat comes true - the oil companies will be paying us to fill up out cars. Of course, when you are running in logic circles over ANWAR what can you expect.
Meanwhile Massa addresses the energy issues in a frank and straightforward manner. As opposed to Randy Kuhl who provides, as Mr Tobin calls them, non-answers.
In other news..
It was a bad day to be an ex-GOP Governor. Bill Reilich pops higher on the RADAR screen as GOP County Chair nominee. This interesting ad from a German Car Rental Company. Linda Chavez on Guns . Apparently the Iraq war was about oil.
The Democrat and Chronicle acknowledges there is actually a competitive County Clerk race.
Obama on FISA - sorry Barack - your position here doesn’t make sense.
Finally - Yes, there are miles to go before we sleep (h/t Robert) but we are heading in the right direction.

Yeah, but John R. Kuhl went to Brazil to see how they have reduced their dependence on fossil fuels. Doesn’t that count for something?
Oh, wait a minute, nevermind …
Today’s D&C features an interview with Minarik. Something just doesn’t seem right…he’s too happy to have been asked to resign. It’s just weird. He even agrees that the time has come to work with the other side.
But maybe there is something much more telling in the interview. Minarik states that he has said all along that the County Executive should be the head of the party. And I keep thinking that the split might have been equal…but not mutual. By this I mean, Maggie and Steve may have both wanted to go on their different paths….but to what end.
My wild thought is that Minarik comes back as a candidate for County Executive and he can claim that Maggie went soft on the Republican ideals and that he stands for the true conservative.
I think you mean “Grievous Angel scores an interview with Phil Jones Democratic Candidate for the 147th State ASSEMBLY district.” No big deal, I knew what you were talking about.
I suppose one can dream when NY is restored to its greatest and has 147 Senate districts. Thanks for catching the mistake.
