NY-26: Jon Powers goes Red To Blue - Updated
More great news from the Jon Powers campaign: The DCCC has included Powers in their Red To Blue campaign, which means that he will receive the resources and power of the national party. It also means that the DCCC recognizes how important it is that Democrats take this seat back from the Republicans—and it means they believe Jon Powers is the strongest candidate to do just that.
Update: (btp here) This is significant. In reality, even though the DCCC frequently says they like to stay out of primaries, they clearly can take sides when they feel like it. But it’s unusual for them to be this clearly behind a candidate in a crowded field. To me, this means they believe, as I do, that “Dollar Bill” Davis will not be able to buy his way into the seat and that the grassroots that Powers has built up will win him the primary over Kryzan & Konst.

I agree. Powers has been working hard for this for over a year now. His work ethic is formidable and his grassroots supporters are right there behind him. It is truly a people-powered campaign.
Angel, you are exactly right. JP has worked hard and it is paying off because he is getting to know the voters. He is listening to the voters. He cares about what the voters say. His campaign is built on the premise that the people of WNY have lost their voice in Washington. I believe that is true because for the most part only the wealthy can play this game. The recent Supreme Court decision striking down a candidate’s ability to tap donors for more money when running against self-funders is an unfortunate turn that allows for the wealthy to continue to buy their seats by outspending their opponents, who have to work hard to earn every penny. Jon’s rise in popularity is proof that we Middle Classers don’t want the out of touch rich controlling Congress and making these important decisions for us. I, for one, want someone who is struggling with the same issues I am. Jon is feeling the high cost of living these days. I am pretty sure that Jack Davis is not.
Glad Powers got Red to Blue… I can’t help but wonder about the timing though. Don’t have any inside info, but I wonder if this is a slap at Davis over the millionaire’s amendment ruling in the Supreme Court… certainly doesn’t help the Democratic Party that he challenged the prior rulings.
I was wondering that too, Zabriskie. Davis’ actions show that this is about him and not the party, so maybe that motivated today’s announcement.
