BREAKING…MINARIK TO RESIGN
Rachel Barnhart has the details…
More later.
Update: Key detail(?) below from Channel 13 piece:
A statement from County Executive Maggie Brooks’ office said Minarik “submitted his resignation at the request of the County Executive.”
Updated Update (G.A. here): MCDC Chairman Joe Morelle released the following statement (bold mine):
“Steve Minarik single-handedly rebuilt the local Republican Party. And, while he and I have very different views on government and politics, I have considered him a most worthy adversary. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.
“I also believe that simply changing leaders will not change the fundamental differences between the Democratic and Republican Parties in Monroe County. Democrats will continue to ensure Monroe County residents get the very best government possible in return for their hard-earned tax dollars.”
Update update update (Exile again):
I’m mining Maggie Brooks’s statements (also via Channel 13) about this. Here’s more:
“I was elected on a platform of collaboration and working together for positive change in our community, and I need party leadership that reflects that.”
My take is that this is a response to the PR disasters resulting from the county’s heavy-handed weighs with the public defender and MCC presidential search. The natural question: is how much changes? Not much changed in the White House when Karl Rove got canned.
Here’s something to keep an eye on: will they withdraw Bill Smith’s name from the MCC presidential search?

Finally
Minarik, Bruno….the writing is on the wall. This is going to be a big year. From Obama on down to our local races: Powers, Massa, Maffei, Hasman, Dollinger, Garretson.
W-O-W.
from your keys to god’s ears…..

Excellent question. If I had to guess, the MCC debacle broke the camel’s back.
So long Steve, don’t let the door hit your a** on the way out.
Since it’s a “Friday night bad news” dump, not a middle-of-the-week announcement with a replacement already lined up, I don’t think that Minarik is stepping down to spend more time with his family after a job well done. Something sudden happened that made him more of a liability than an asset. It could be fallout from the MCC mess or it could be a private fight he had with Maggie.

do you think any of our longtime republican supervisors will take this opportunity to step down? Rumors have been flying out here about Auberger taking flight and Esposito who just narrowly won twice has long term health issues which are clearly taking a toll. were they closely tied to Minarik or just taking orders
First, I can’t imagine that Maggie and Minarik had a falling out after such coziness all these years. He’s on her freakin’ payroll. So either he and she agreed it was best for the party (and undoubtedly they’ve lined up some not-too -shabby parachute for him) or there’s about to be some scandal discovered/revealed about him. And it won’t be personal - he’s already done that. It would have to be financial.
Second, WTF Joe Morelle? Most worthy adversary? How about evil, greedy, destructive, nasty &%^*)*^%$^%#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is wrong with Morelle is what’s wrong with the Dems around here - they’re think they have to be nice to the Republicans, no matter what the Republicans have done to them and this community.
Good question. I don’t know the answer.
And 25 years from now, when we’re old and gray, we’ll be talking about where we were when we heard the news.
But seriously, Minarik goes to MCC. Bill Smith becomes head of the MC Repos. Why do anything seriously different when you can simply play musical chairs?
Poor David Dunning…what’s he gonna do now? Had the world by the walls, and now it’s all GONE - GONE - GONE!!!
Oh, that’s right…this is a rouse!

WTF? I’m media free for a week and this happens!? Never going on vacation again.
Oh come on Itchy - you should go on media free vacations more often. I mean I leave for 3 weeks and nothing - You go for a week and Minarik is out. Imagine if you left for a few weeks.
Correlation = Effect and all that.
If only I could really take credit!
What did Steve know about this group of 15 ??? When did the investigation begin ???
Probably about the same time his health problem resurfaced forcing Maggie to find a new talking head to stand in…but you already knew that, didn’t you?
