NY-26: It’s The People, Stupid or “By the people” vs. “Buy the people”
Anyway, a thorough review of Jack Davis’ website shows one, get that—ONE—photo of him out with voters…in his car. He is not with the people, of the people, by the people nor for the people. There are a total of two recent photos of Jack Davis, presumably from the same event. The video on his website is presumably enacted by actors.
Contrast that with Jon Powers’ people-infused campaign. Powers has events nearly every day and has hundreds of original photos with, gasp, actual voters in the district. What a concept! His website’s videos are grassroots events of Jon himself with the people in his district, people that support him with their actions as well as their hard-earned working class money. The majority of Jon Powers’ campaign contributions are from those who can only afford small donations but together they are adding up. The people are with Powers.
Davis may have won his Millionaire Complaint but he has lost the race for this seat…twice. Why? Davis doesn’t realize that it’s the people that make the difference. You cannot buy the people. Jon Powers gets that it is all about the people, of the people, by the people, for the people.

Davis again shows he only wants to buy the seat to join the fat cats in protecting what is important to him - his money!!! He doesn’t even really care about the trade issue - he only wants to protect his factory in Wester New York so he can continue making millions. He’s so out of touch with every day Americans it is sickening!!
This is the type of post that I wish you could snail-mail to every voter in the district. (Of course, there are a lot of posts at RT in that category!)
Have you heard Jack Davis’s ridiculous radio ads?
The Supreme Court correctly ruled on the Millionaire’s Amendment. The nexus is not about money, it is about applying constitutional rights equally. The “Amendment” is based in class warfare. Before you jump on my response, I am no fan of Davis or his fanatical obsession with trade policies. However, Powers has put forth virtually no substantive positions except for his love of supporting E85 and other destructive energy policies.
Powers abhors the thought that people/companies are allowed to make money and spend it in a manner they see fit. That is the principle that elevated us out of the Colonial Age.
When it comes to government, less is more, and Powers does not have the right answers. BTW, at this end of the 26th about the only people I know supporting him are the heads of the County parties who should have remained on the sidelines until the primary process is over.
Hypocrite. Save the “less is more” statement for your next Davis meeting. If only Jack felt the same way.
And those “heads” of those county parties you reference base their decisions on the caucus results of all of those town parties who overwhelmingly voted for Powers, so you’re way off base.
Jack has had 2 turns at bat. He struck out both times. Now he wants to buy his third chance to swing. Sorry. The “team” can’t afford his third strike. What part of “we don’t want him” don’t you or he get? Are you one of the “paid” workers he’s had to hire because no one wants to work on his campaign?
Jack’s story has grown old. It’s about ALOT more than just jobs. It’s about ALOT more than riding around in expensive cars in parades, and flaunting your money in front of people who are struggling just to put gas in theirs, and food on the table.
It’s about PEOPLE. And arrogance prohibits some people from being able to see the art of being HUMAN. That’s what Jon Powers has. COMPASSION. And that cant be bought, it can’t be sold, and Jack doesn’t have it.
And all the ads and money can’t buy the TIME in the district going door to door himself that Jack won’t do.
Bottom line - when he said he’d work for $1.00 - he showed his true level of arrogance. Perhaps this is the way millionaires humble themselves to the masses, but here’s a word to Jack - perhaps the voters figured they would get what they paid for - a man with lots of money, who’s only worth $1.00 (+/- .27 with the cost of inflation factored in).
I was waiting to see if Jack would ride around in his car throwing money to the crowd, just like that video that was posted here on RT of the Joker doing the same in the Batman movie.
Only we’re not laughing at this joker. Times up - go home Jack. Invest your money in something other than yourself for once. We don’t need you to save us. We need to elect someone who *IS* one of us…
…and that man is Jon Powers. Thank goodness for the net worth of a man’s soul - this guy is priceless!
powers for congress dot com!
jiminybizbo, before you let your blind devotion to Powers skew your judgment, reread my comment and let me know how I am being a hypocrite. I quite clearly stated I am not a fan of Jack Davis, nor do I care for Powers.
From your comments, I would conclude you are a fan of socialism and government thievery. The amount of money Davis has earned, or the cars he drives, is completely irrelevant to the challenges of a Congressional office. The possibility of earning wealth is the incentive that grows an economy. Without it, people become dependent upon their masters (government) and lose their dreams.
The point is that this is a race to be *Representative* and Davis is not willing to get out there and dive fully into getting to know the voters he supposedly wants to represent. Jon Powers IS out there listening to the voters and in essence is already representing them. I want a hard working person in office who is out amongst the people, one who really gets that it’s about the people. Of the people, for the people, by the people is not just a slogan, it’s the underlying basis of our democracy and it’s the underlying theme of Jon Powers’ hard working campaign.
That’s fine if you prefer a cadidate who get out more. My point was that it had nothing to do with the “Millionaire’s Amendment”.
I am not very comfortable with our “democracy” at this time, I prefer to think it has “tyranny by the majority”. We have a wonderful document called the Constitution, if it was followed as written, I believe our country would be in much better shape. We certainly wouldn’t be stifled by trillions of dollars of debt from local, state and federal government.
People need to have their sense of self-responsibility restored and get the government out of the way and allow people to thrive.
Powers embodies what I refer to as the “escalation of commitment”. When something isn’t working, people throw more resources at it in a failed attempt to fix it.
We don’t need more government “solutions”, we need to get rid of the government “solutions” that exist now.
There is such a thing as good government.
I agree that the government need not be overly involved in people’s affairs, which is why I support free speech and all other freedoms that the Democrats advocate for and Republicans try to interfere with, but there is such a thing as good government.
I could easily refer to Republican policies as “escalation of detachment” or “de-escalation of compassion.”
A part of the problem with Washington as a whole is that you almost have to be rich to run. I think most of the millionaire “representatives” are out of touch with what the common middle class American is struggling with. Jack Davis and Tom Reynolds spent a combined $5.2 million last time around. I agree with Angel, Jon Powers is out there listening to what the voters have to say. That’s a much better start than any of the other candidates that are running now.
how does the the “Millionaire’s Amendment” impact Davis’ speech? best i can tell, Jack Davis’ ability to spend his own money isn’t impacted one iota by his rival’s ability to raise more.
Grievous, I agree with you. There isn’t a whole lot of difference between Democrats and Republicans.
There’s a reason Jefferson advocated a revolution every 20 years, he could predict the usurpation of power by government.
Dear Lord, somebody come to your rescue. That WAS the philosophy of the founders of the Republican Party. Keep the poor “wishing” they could be us, and they’ll work harder and “become” one of us.
Sorry Jack…I mean Mike…that statement was the prompt that Thomas Jefferson decided that the birth of a DEMOCRAT PARTY was needed so that all people, regardless of their wealth or position were equal.
Jack Davis needs to buy something else to play with - but it won’t be our money, our sweat, or our futures he’ll be treating like another hobby project for import/export reform. Maybe the Chinese don’t want his heater bars either?
Maybe nobody wants what the Jack is cookin’.
You obviously don’t know Jack either. Go ahead, pull his lever. Somebody has to do it.
You agree with me? Good, but just to clarify, I’m not saying there isn’t a whole lot of difference between Democrats and Republicans. I feel, having been a Republican a while ago and switching to the Democratic party in college because it more closely aligns with my views, that there is quite a significant difference between the two parties in key areas: social freedoms, taxes, economy, education, health care, environment. Need I go on? All these differences do not coalesce but instead break into disparate parties, do they not?
And I think Jefferson said “Every generation needs a new revolution.” Given how adept he was with language, perhaps he was speaking metaphorically. Maybe for him “revolution” could have meant a revolution of ideas, practices, etc., rather than a literal translation.
Exactly. Davis just wants to be able to buy the election unimpeded and the Supremes had his back. Luckily, very few millionaires actually win their contests for elected office:
