Massa press conference summary

Rotten has a good write-up of Eric Massa’s press conference, which took place yesterday (and every Wednesday). Here’s some of the highlights:

  • * On the subprime crisis: “the mortgage crisis isn’t even halfway over yet.”
  • * On FISA: ” It’s a shame that vote passed. It had nothing to do with national security and everything to do with ignoring the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution. The reality is that telecommunications companies spent millions of dollars making contributions to those persons in both parties who voted for it. I’m against it [...] and that puts me at odds with many very powerful people in the Democratic party.”
  • * On Kuhl’s farcical claims about lowering gas $2 a gallon: ” Instead we have Washington insiders talking about passing legislation that they promise will lower the price of gas to $2 and change. Everyone knows it is a false political ploy — it will do nothing to help anybody [and result in] another broken promise.”

It’s hard not to admire Massa’s forthrightness here. And he’s right about the subprime crisis, I’m afraid. Fall-out from the subprime crisis could be one of the big sleeper issues this fall. Kuhl and many other Republicans are whistling past the “For Sale” sign if they think they can ignore it.
