More on Massa car story
The Corning Leader has more on the story of Eric Massa’s car being vandalized, which we first reported yesterday:
A rear window was recently smashed out of Eric Massa’s minivan, leaving the congressional candidate wondering if the incident was politically motivated….“This is what happens to candidates in close races,” Massa said. He pointed out that there were other vehicles parked on the street but that his was the only one vandalized, leading him to believe the crime wasn’t just a random act. “It’s personal. It’s a threat to my family,” he added. “It means we’re going to have to take some rather extraordinary security measures now. It’s clearly somebody trying to intimidate me and I am not someone who can be easily intimidated.” Jared Smith, a Massa campaign spokesman, said that while he didn’t know for sure if the incident was politically motivated, “it certainly seems suspicious that something like this would happen, in front of the Massa household, which is pretty well-known in the Corning area, and is easy to look up (in the phone book).”

Ha!
“This is what happens to candidates in close races,” Massa said”
Really? Who, for example, or is this just one of those broad sweeping statements I should just take your word for?
It’s also possible someone on his campaign or a supporter did it so this very claim could be made. There have been numerous incidences of claims vandalism as a result of racism, sexism, bigotry, etc., all which were later proven to be hoaxes perpetrated by the “victim”.
I’m afraid you’re letting your anger and partisanship get the better of you here, whtwrtdood. Hmmm….I wonder if you’ve done some threatening and vandalizing in the past yourself.
Just admit you did it big man. Come clean. I’m sure Massa won’t press charges…
Well, then you’re an idiot.
I’ve never done it, but our family has been victimized three times in the past seven years. Teens in the neighborhood with far too much time on their hands and no concept of right & wrong. Fortunately, the last time they were caught and I think the three felonies the two lads were ultimately charged with may finally drive that lesson home, at least for these two. Unfortunately for us, that lesson was a shattered windshield, two shatered side windows, and a dead cat. But, as the one young lad said, I shouldn’t be mad; “cuz it was just a hate joke”.
Back to my original point, just name the other candidates. I don’t think that’s asking too much.
Sorry to hear about your family being victimized.
Candidates do receive a lot of threats. I’m not at liberty to discuss the ones I have specific knowledge of.
Not so fast mister. You stated that:
Then you come forward and state that “teens with too much time on their hands…”
Which is it? Whodunit? Consistency dude…
Wormwood-Who were the other candidates who did this to themselves? Just curious, as you seem to want us to name names.
Just how bad is your cognitive thought process?
You contradict yourself, and I’m the one with the learning disorder? Let me guess…you’re a teacher too?
“Cognitive thought process” is redundant. The definition of cognitive is:
Pertaining to cognition, the process of knowing and, more precisely, the process of being aware, knowing, thinking, learning and judging.
I can think of 2 that would cause mirrors to break, but not windshields…although on second thought, I’m not so sure!

DemocratDemocratic campaign staff members have performed illegal activities as little as 4 years ago in this congressional district:“BATH, N.Y. (AP) - Sealed divorce records alleging a Republican candidate for Congress once threatened his wife at gunpoint were obtained by his Democratic opponent’s campaign manager, a prosecutor said Thursday.”

What does that case have to do with this one?
And, more generally, what does any of this have to do with party affiliation? No one said “this kind of thing happens to Democrats running in republican districts”. It’s unfortunate that this happens to any candidates…but it really does.
off topic, Elmer. We’re not talking illegal activities. We are specifically talking vandalism here. There was nothing “threatening” to Randy in this instance (au contraire-he was the one doing the threatening)
“This is what happens to candidates in close races,” Massa said”
Sounds to me like Eric is insinuating the vandal had politics on his or her mind. I don’t think he expected us to think it was a Democrat that did it.
I think that Eric injected the politics into this story and I just wanted to point out that it is not new for this district.
I still don’t follow your reasoning. These things do happen to candidates in close races. You bring up an example of something that you believe is similar (I’m not sure I agree but I do see your point) — that only reinforces that point.
I understand your point about Randy not being physically threatened by the release of his divorce papers, but throwing something through someone’s van window is certainly illegal.
Wow - I forgot all about the fact that Randy Kuhl brandished a shotgun on his wife while drunk or something like that. Thanks for the reminder Elmer!
Without other evidence, I would guess that if it’s politically motivated it was just probably some drunk guy with an opinion rather than someone officially with the other campaign or party. I wouldn’t start with the assumption that it’s political though.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
I think it’s a stretch to assume this was politically motivated, and an even greater stretch to think it was done by Massa workers or Massa to make him look like a victim of dirty tricks.
Cars get vandalized all the time. Sometimes the radio gets stolen, sometimes someone happens upon the vandal before the theft and it’s just damage. Sometimes a teenager does something stupid, sometimes it’s a drunk or irritated neighbor.
And the fact that someone engaged in domestic violence is extremely unlikely to bear any relationship to car vandalism years later.
Move along folks. Nothing to see here.
Agree.
You are welcome - I am sure that will change your vote
I don’t think anyone was trying to relate one incident to the other-Domestic Violence/car vandalism.
that was just Elmer going off on a tangent.
(Elmer-that’s not a slam. You’re still my favorite Republican :))
You’re the idiot.
Taking your cue from O’Reilly or Hannity?
Good, now that we got the name calling out of the way.
