Did you call your State Senator yet?
While I was away, I posted about bottle deposits and litter in Germany and the upcoming NYS Senate vote over the bigger, better bottle bill.
As I said, I was struck by the lack of bottle litter compared to the last time I was in Germany. Specifically, water and juice bottles.
Well guess, waiting for a bus - I thought this was precious - I saw this glass milk bottle. The words “Pfand frei” (Deposit free) prominently displayed as part of the labeling sitting abandoned at a at a bus stop.
It seemed to scream “buy me because you don’t have to return it”.
Message here? Deposit bottles make it back into the waste recovery stream - non-deposit bottles don’t.
Call your State Senator - urge then to support the bigger better bottle bill.

Done,
And I must say that the people answering the phone for Senator Alesi are excellent!
Great - thanks
Did the staffer give any indication to which way Senator Alesi is leaning?
He is for it ,as well.
Done. Sen. Robach is supporting as well.
a) it’s an election year - get used to them being congenial.
b) it’s a no-brainer - it should have been done originally when the bottle law passed
c) what took you so long?
Jiminy-I made this comment in reference to Alesi’’s staffer being sharp and articulate, because last week I had occasion to call Marc Allesi’s office, and his staffer acted like I had asked him to explain the theory of relativity, when all I was asking was, “could you have the Assemblyman call me back?”
by the way- I never got a call back from him. I got the feeling, that as I was giving my name and number, he was probably channel surfing through reality TV shows, while responding to me with distracted, “uh-huhs”, while I dictated.
(but I digress, forgive me for getting off topic-go bottle bill!)
