Obama ahead by 14% in NY

Remember how local GOP boss Steve Minarik was recently bragging about how New York was in play? Brand new poll out from Quinnipiac University:

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the likely Democratic presidential nominee, has pulled even among white voters with Arizona Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican contender, and now tops Sen. McCain 50 - 36 percent in New York State, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to a 47 - 39 percent Obama lead over McCain in an April 18 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University, when New York Sen. Hillary Clinton still was in the race. In that survey, white voters backed McCain 48 - 38 percent.

Further evidence of a unity bump: Obama is up 3 points matched by a McCain decline of 3 points since April.

Now that’s funny. With his track record and crazy shenanigans like the terrorist mailer from last year, why does the media still go to Minarik for his take on stuff?

It does make for good comedy though.

  2. I would be surprised if the margin wasn’t more like 20 points in the end.

No, a Democrat is going to carry NY by a wide-margin? Really? I can’t imagine why. It’s almost is if there were an extremely large metropolitan area of several million people somewhere within the state.

Steve Minarik is an idiot and as I’ve posted previously, most folks out to the West all say; “Steve who?” His influence doesn’t carry much beyond the pretend world in his head.

  4. You’re right about Minarik, but he does have a lot of influence here in Monroe County.

One interesting question is how McCain/Obama will go up here. I would expect Obama to win Monroe, Erie, and Onondaga counties but for McCain to win a lot of the rural counties. It will be interesting to see.

It would be even more interesting if one of the real nuts like Huck or Tancredo had won the Republican nomination. I do wonder if they’d carry even the rural upstate counties.
