Going, going, Guon
Although I am not a fan of the D&C editorial blog, I have to admit that Tom Tobin can be quite incisive at times. His take on the MCC Board of Trustees in the wake of the MCC presidential search fiasco is dead-on:
I loved the comment from MCC board of trustees chair Richard Guon that he is going to work with the faculty to make “it” better, fix “it’, so that there will be peace in the land. If the “it” he referred to is the board’s credibility, Guon had better give up his day job. The no-confidence vote last week of faculty and staff passed 546-7. If the MCC board were a football team, it would be disbanded after a loss like that. You can’t fix that. You can only go into another line of work. The board has proved itself to be completely, irretrievably irresponsible, willing to ignore their duty as stewards of a really superb school in favor of goofball local politics - in this case, hiring a favored son as president.
A no confidence vote of 546-7 is pretty stunning. Tobin is completely correct in saying that there is no way that Guon can recover from this.
