NY-29: Eric Massa opens campaign headquarters in Victor, NY
Eric Massa was in unusually high spirits this morning as he conducted his weekly press conference. One reason was the Democratic primary and the other reason he spoke about before the official business:
Eric Massa has been working with the wife of a veteran that has lost his benefits and with Massa’s help he has finally gotten the benefits secured. The man was a Vietnam veteran who had been sprayed with Agent Orange and had lifelong health problems, kidney failure, etc., and Massa met him last year at a memorial meeting. He was on his deathbed when his wife called Massa to come speak to him. He asked Massa to take care of his family and Massa agreed. He received a liver transplant but the liver that had been transplanted was cancerous and he died of liver cancer. The VA said the death was not service related even though he initially had to have a transplant due to his exposure to Agent Orange. Massa worked hard and secured this veteran’s benefits for his family.
Massa said “Nothing you guys ask can change my mood today.” He was truly ecstatic.
Now for the official business:
Massa is excited to see millions of new votes in a historic primary season, unprecedented in American history.
We have never seen a primary like the one we have just witnessed. The upstart of all of it are the millions of new voters who turned out to support two of the most exciting and qualified candidates in modern American history.
Are you ready to endorse Obama?
I hope Obama reaches out and asks Senator Clinton to be his running mate. Out of respect for Senator Clinton I am going to wait for her to address the American people.
[This election] is about empowering individual voters to bring about change in this area. I am the individual who is going to bring change.
Worried about the use of “change” falling flat?
Anyone who worries about “change” falling flat need only listen to Bush and Randy Kuhl.
Specifics on energy policy change?
Freeze price of gasoline at the pump for 120 days, which is what Nixon did when this country faced an energy crisis, and then move to increase the value of the dollar. Refuse to allow oil companies to gouge us at the pump, create energy policy created by energy experts and not energy executives.
Would you include Paul Krugman in the energy experts?
I don’t know Paul Krugman but we need to include energy experts in an open debate.
[There was a] closing of 4 SUV plants yesterday. Failures are so profound that Bush and Kuhl are going to be consumed in explaining how they had nothing to do with it.
Why did you choose Victor vs. Pittsford for your office opening this year?
We found a great office that was very economical. It allows us to travel Ontario and Monroe Co. with ease.
Our picnic on Friday starts at 5:00, 139 Turkhill Rd. across from Eastview Mall.
In closing, [I am excited] about this primary season. The naysayers are wrong. I watched both candidates speak last night. I want to personally offer my deepest respects to both campaigns who I think did an outstanding job in bringing in millions of new voters.
Reminder: Opening southern HQ in Corning on Market Street across from the best coffee shop in the city.
