Lest We Forget…Why GOP County Cronyism Is A Bad Thing ™
Buried in a D&C article about County Legislator benefits statewide:
But getting full-time pension benefits leaves open the opportunity to parlay those benefits into better retirement salaries. Because they can rack up years of pension credits as part-time legislators, officials need to work only a few years as full-time public employees to boost their pensions.
In one case, former Monroe County Legislature President John Stanwix spent nearly two decades in office, then worked for about seven years as the politically appointed head of the county Water Authority, earning a top pay of $133,541.
According to the Comptroller’s Office, he then was able to retire with nearly 40 years of pension service and an annual pension of more than $97,000. His salary and benefits have been criticized by the Comptroller’s Office, and Stanwix is facing criminal charges involving his dealings at the Water Authority.
A patronage appointment here, another there. Now Stanwix, a county GOP political appointee who is “facing criminal charges involving his dealings at the Water Authority”, is costing all us taxpayers nearly $100k/year. And he’s just one of many patronage appointees.
After a while, that kind of money starts to add up.

Let’s not forget Maggie’s appointment of her own husband to a newly-created-just-for-you position at the Water Authority, after he retired from MCC and, I believe, other county employment.
And, of course, her step-son, a college dropout, given a job with the RTS.
I wonder if she’d be willing to adopt a lesbian?
hehehe
Good thing we’ve got so much extra money in the schools, that we can subsidize crony welfare with it.
Maybe John Lightfoot could fill one of those positions. He’s probably going to be looking for work soon.
