Sex Education for New York Public Schools

The D&C had a good editorial today about the value of sex education and the role of the State Senate in preventing passage of a comprehensive plan for sex education:

Playing political football with sex education is the wrong way to go. Yet the state Senate has done as much the past four years.

It’s time for the Senate to open its eyes to the benefits of educating young people about sex and how to protect themselves.

Heck, the D&C even acknowledges that abstinence programs don’t work,

Despite the moral arguments, studies have shown that abstinence-only education has little effect on preventing premarital sex.

I wonder where our local State Senators will come down on this?

Any ideas?

With illegitimacy rate being the single biggest common denominator in regards to poverty, especially in the urban areas, I would think it’s time to require sex education in schools, starting in the primary grades. But with the fear and infatuation with sex in this country, I don’t see anybody taking this ball and running with it any time soon.
