Ren-square oversight-another closed door policy

The oversight on the ren-square project continues to be an issue.

Twice rejected in requests for legislative oversight of the Renaissance Square project, Democrats in the Monroe County Legislature made a public appeal Wednesday and hinted that they might ask the state comptroller to intervene

The issue comes down to the long-term finances of the $230 million project, the likely subsidies required and who will pay them.

Democrats submitted failed proposals in February and again last week to create a bipartisan review panel. Legislature President Wayne Zyra, R-Brockport, and County Attorney Daniel DeLaus Jr. responded that lawmakers do not have oversight authority because the project is directed by a local development corporation, the Main and Clinton LDC, and its board of directors.

Back in January, Stlo7 talked about it here:

I was surprised these words (the ones I bolded) actually made it into the Editorial. Sounds like something we would write.

The county’s contention is that the studies were drafts and not “ready” for public consumption. That’s consistent with County Executive Maggie Brooks’ whole approach to public outreach: We’ll tell you when we want to.

Doesn’t look like things are getting any better.  What, if any oversight does the public have over these LDCs?  Seems alot like the government authorities-owned by no one, beholden to no one, oversight only exists within the board of directors of the LDC, and who do they answer to?

No one.
