No selection for MCC President - Bill Smith was still in the running

Geez where did this result come from? From the D&C

BRIGHTON — A divided Monroe Community College board of trustees has failed to choose a new president and is expected to start a new search for a leader next spring.

The board was expected to choose one of three finalists this morning to replace R. Thomas Flynn, who is retiring as leader of the largest college in the Rochester area.

The board first voted 5-5 on a motion to appoint Rochester businessman Dennis Kessler. The board then voted 5-5 on a motion to appoint Pittsford lawyer Bill Smith.
The board did not consider the other finalist, Broome Community College President Laurence Spraggs.

The board now will ask officials of the State University of New York to recommend two or three individuals to serve as an interim president.

This vote is extremely scary to me. The Republicans were so close to delivering a sweetheart deal of a job to Bill Smith. The vote shouldn’t have even been close.

I heard a rumor that if either of those two pieces of candy were chosen from the box, a boycott and walk-out was planned for the staff as well as the students.

Whats down right rude is the treatment of the one “real” candidate that entered the race. Who from Monroe County will be the first to apologize?

Let’s recap:

1. MCC had two parallel searches that each identified two candidates who were qualified for the position. Both searches identified the same two candidates.

2. The politicians on the board inserted two political candidates into consideration. One almost certainly wasn’t qualified, the other probably wasn’t qualified.

3. One of the two quality candidates threw his hands up in disgust and pulled his name from consideration.

4. The board refused to even consider the other quality candidate.

5. The board now wishes to run a new search.

It doesn’t take Carson’s Carnac the Magnificent to realize that any qualified candidates will avoid that search like the plague, leaving only the political hacks that the board wants to appoint, anyway.

Did I miss anything?

No - nice summary - (I updated Carnac’s name)

Let’s not forget the coup that was engineered to enable the hacks to be appointed in the first place.
