What’s your favorite State earmark?

Where does all that earmark money go?

You can check out the 9 Meg New York State Senate file here.

The Assembly is here.

Let’s play a game.  Find your favorite earmark.  Write about it in the comments

I haven’t looked in great detail at both files and I will when I have time but.. Look at what our state elected officials

From the Senate PDF do a search on Churches.  Notice the Church in Church of God Central Newburgh

for costs associated with furnishing their new building which will house
four meeting rooms and a conference room which will be open for public
use

I wonder who maintains that schedule?  Who have priority.  Like they say possession is 9/10 of the law.  Something just strike me odd about this one done by Senator Larkin.

But have fun.  Highlight your favorite earmark in the comments.

Binghamton State Sen. Libous earmarked $100K so that he could get his name slapped on Empire State Games promotional material as a sponsor. Your money, his re-election campaign.

There’s almost 5,200 earmarks in there. That’s a lot of pork.

Jim Alesi: 132 Pork Chops…$650,000 on these projects alone - what do property taxes pay for? Now I know where he got the ladder from that he tried to break and enter into that home when he fell and broke his leg. Turns out, he’s a fireman’s best friend…

This is BS - pure and simple. I respect firemen, and emergency workers, but where does the taxc money, the carnival funding, the fundraisers - how much money is there in this? I recently read about nearly 250K spent on ONE firehall in Greece - now I know why.

Well he’s got “Robach The Religious” beat - poor Joe Joe only has 131 pieces of pork - and many of them to religious based groups.

The all seem to have a pattern, although they all share in the fire department donations…but here’s the scoop on Bruno:

Joe Bruno (The Little League King) checks in with 144 Pork Earmarks - He gives approximately $350K to softball, soccer, and footballs little league teams. What does he give to the poor, or M.A.D.D.? $15,000.00 TOTAL. How DISGUSTING.

Anything involving money to sports leagues/teams.

I remember being a kid (not too long ago for me) and I had to raise money by selling candy bars or by going around and asking for donations. That was our “pork.” We went out and raised money ourselves.

I saw several sports leagues or teams on just the Senate list of member items. I think the taxpayers should tell these leagues and teams to get out their and raise their own money instead of asking the taxpayers to cover the costs.

i love this idea, but, if we can use the logic of ALL taxpayers covering a cost makes it cheaper overall (which is an argument for funding sports stuff), the little league moms and dads from suburbia could be our biggest ally in the fight for universal health care, clean elections, aid to public education, etc. sadly, they tend to fall prey to the right wing spin machine.

More info about earmarks (aka member items) can be found here:

Unfortunately (for me) I don’t have excel so I can’t open the spread sheets. But it would be interesting to see what our local delegation has scored in the way of member items.

“Costs associated with, but not limited to…”

Am I wrong, or is that basically saying “Here, have some money. Do whatever the heck you want with it, as long as I get to come to your Fire Dept. open house and march in your parade, and don’t forget to put my name on your web site and fundraising info, and…. oh yeah, ribbon cuttings and stuff like that.
