I’m a-scared of taxes, like I used to be a-scared of terrorists
There is an LTE from the Elmira Star Gazette in response to a recent Randy Kuhl quote. The quote comes from a guest essay which can be found here at Kuhl’s website. I think the Fighting 29th covered the essay too, but I was unable to find a link. Here’s a bit of stupidity for you to gaze upon:
What would you do with $3,658?
This week the House will consider the monstrosity that is the Democrats’ FY 2009 federal budget, which was introduced last Wednesday.
[snip]
When you break it down, the financial implications of their budget totals an enormous, broad-based, job killing, $683 billion tax increase that will be placed on working families and small business entrepreneurs. Nationally, under the Democratic tax hike plan, 116 million taxpayers will be burdened with an average tax hike of $1,833. But in the state of New York, the average taxpayer will be paying $3,658 on an annual basis under this budget so the Democratic leadership can finance wasteful new Washington spending.
(I was going to interject the phrase, “What a dick!” here, but the author of this letter does it much more eloquently…) my bold:
U.S. Rep. John R. Kuhl recently wrote a guest editorial, “What would you do with $3,658?” He said that, if elected, uncaring and out-of-touch Democrats were going to take $3,658 from each of us through a devious combination of increased taxes, slashed tax credits and reckless expansion of federal programs. It was something a middle-school teacher would return to a student, with stern advice to completely rewrite it based on facts, not fear-based political rhetoric. How on earth could he come up with such a figure, with such certainty? It’s impossible.
Fear-based political rhetoric. Remember that? I seem to remember a debate, 2 years ago between Eric Massa and Randy Kuhl where Randy, ominously pointed out at the Audience and said, (paraphrased)
“The terrorists want to kill you. They want to kill all of you. And I don’t want them to.”
But don’t take my word for it, here’s the footage:
I think I’ll interject it here, instead,
“What a dick!”

There are exactly 57 communists in the State Department.
Here’s my favorite version.
I don’t know if I covered this, and maybe some people will be receptive to the fear angle, but I think the most important question to ask any Republican when they propose a tax cut or decry a tax increase is to ask them for their proposal for paying down the national debt.
This simple question is hardly ever asked.
Absolutely. I would love to see Randy squirm under that sort of questioning.
