Did anyone else find this offensive? The Judges are out to get us.
I caught this bit from Maggie’s speech as well (my bold).
Well as you know, not everyone agreed with the plan and we lost the most recent round of the legal challenge. Judges who don’t even live in Monroe County blocked our ability to bring property tax relief to local homeowners and adopt a long-term sustainable solution for ending the County budget deficit.
Offensive is too light a word. Willfully ignorant and partisan works better for me.
So, all those cases the United States Supreme Court settles are wrong because those judges don’t live in the geographic location? Please. We are a nation of laws not men or, in this case, willfully ignorant and partisan women. The law is the law. Judges rule on the law. Maggie Brooks unFAIR plan lost in a recent round of appeals.
Just as she has every legal write to pursue this to the next higher level - once the case is, settled it is over.
Where judges live is immaterial. if they have a right to hear the case then it is in their jurisdiction and where they physically live is irrelevant.
What is sad is that County Executive Maggie Brooks actually knows better - and chooses to ignore it.
She also quoted Richard Nixon. Usually even Republicans don’t invoke his name in a positive light — but maybe she had to look back that far to find a Republican president who said something quotable about an environmental issue.
A person’s geographical location had no impact on their ability to discern right from wrong.
I think you’re assumng too much saying she knows better. The woman’s career was built on reading from a teleprompter and sucking up to Steve Minarik.
Why assume she knows anything about the law?
She does know better which is why her comments are offensive. She is choosing ignorance over substance.
