For the truly hardcore…
There’s a special election in Mississippi’s 1st Congressional district today. These special elections bear watching by those interested in the races in NY-25, NY-26, and N-29. After the stunning Democratic victory in IL-14 a few weeks ago, a few more surprise Democratic wins in special elections will likely persuade the Republicans to give up on NY-25, in particular. It may also dictate who resources are allocated by both parties in Congressional races all over the country.
MS-1 has a Cook PVI of +10 Republican, so a win here would be as sweet as Tupelo honey for Democrats (the town of Tupelo is in the district, in fact) . Right now, polling shows the two candidates — Democrat Travis Childers and Republican Greg Davis — neck-and-neck.
I’ll try to dig up a local tv station so that we can follow the results as they come in. Memphis and Birmingham seem to be the nearest cities of any size.

Hmm, the DCCC spent 142K on it and the NRCC spent 292K. The DCCC has tons more money than the NRCC. If it turns out to be a close one, the question will be why the DCCC didn’t spend twice or 3x that amount.
I tend to think that this is a smart play by the DCCC. Spend enough money to entice the NRCC to overspend on it. This is a tough, tough district for Democrats.
