Bush sets disapproval record
This is historic:
President Bush has set a record he’d presumably prefer to avoid: the highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll.
In a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday, 28% of Americans approve of the job Bush is doing; 69% disapprove.
At nearly every level of politics — local, state, national — George W. Bush and the public’s overwhelming disapproval of him is the 800 pound gorilla (or should that be 190 pound chimp — I kid) in the room.

Damn, he needs to try harder. He still is in second place to Congress. According to the latest AP/Ipsos Poll (4/07 - 09), they have a 23% approval rating and a disapproval rating of 71%.
whtwtrdood… Congress didn’t poll any better when Republicans had both houses, so pointing that out is just a typical redirection from the real issue — poor Presidential leadership. “The first rule of leadership — everything is your fault”.
Check out the trends of congressional approval going back to 2005 through early ‘06 from this historical gem from what I’m sure is your favorite “news” source. Back in Aug 2005, the Republican-held congress was pulling an incredible 28% approval rating.
Moral of the story… Congress almost never polls well. People have always liked their own congress-person but distrust Congress. Bush on the other hand, decided to take a 90% approval rating out for a bender in late September 2001 and as a country we’re still feeling the hangover. Here’s what Bush has accomplished for himself since 2001.
Gee, I thought the real issue was people in general aren’t happy with their elected leaders, regardless of whether there is an “R” or a “D” next to their name. Silly me.
Just for the record, the last Congressman from my district I was proud of was Barber Conable.
(Not sure what happened - my original reply vanished into the ether when I wrote about Mr. Conable.)
I thought the real issue was people in general aren’t too happy with their elected officials, regardless of whether they have a “D” or an “R” next to their name. Silly me.
Yes, Silly you, but we do agree on this point. More on Mr Conable:

OK, I’ll give you that people are more critical of incumbents recently. You’re still not really commenting on the real fact presented here:
Bush went from 90% approval in Sept 2001 to 28% today. Congressional approval has stayed about the same - regardless of the party in control.
My original point — Congress almost never polls well. Pointing to Congressional polling numbers is just a redirection from the fact that 69% of the US population consider Bush a failure as President, and there are still approximately 202 Representatives, and 49 Senators (including one Presidential candidate) who defend the policies of this “failure”.
[...] If this feels like deja vu all over again, it’s because The Decider set the all time disapproval rating for Gallup polls a few weeks ago. [...]
