I’m A Newlywed, I’m A Legal Newlywed, I’m A NewlyWed In New York
(Apologies to Sting...)
We’ve been discussing equal rights in Monroe County, and how Maggie Brooks’ administration has been pandering to the religious right by denying equal rights to folks in a committed gay marriage. This Saturday there’s a fun way to support equal rights (but get yer tickets while they’re still $18, they go up to $25 on Wednesday):

It’s going to be THE party of the year for the LGBT community!
That is, if I can find some shoes….
My kingdom for some shoes….
Thanks for putting up the event. It’s going to be GREAT. There are A LOT of prizes and raffles and give aways and samples and treats … it’s going to be a great party. And the event isn’t for couples only …. The more people who come, the more we show the county how much support is out there.
We have over 60 exhibitors in the wedding expo alone. I guess people realize that our economy is bleeding and this is a revenue source that can help. I mean, people spend A LOT on weddings .. why should their business go to Canada or Massachusetts?
Make sure to thank the businesses and individuals who have invested in this event and that support equal rights. I look forward to seeing many of you there.
Regarding the gay themed wedding events happening in Rochester on Saturday, April 26th, I have heard that there are over a dozen couples who will be renewing their vows at the First Unitarian Church at 2:30 and that the ceremony is open to the public. Several of these couples have been married in Canada and their marriages are now legally valid in NYS, making this an historic event.
As for the evening celebration at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, I have been told that there are some 60, that’s sixty!, vendors that will be participating in the first ever Rochester LGBT Wedding Expo. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the largest gay inclusive wedding expo ever held in the USA! I’m talking it up to all my friends. Local Rochester area businesses will be presenting their goods and services to the LGBT community and there will be plenty of free giveaways, as well as raffles for some great prizes and a terrific silent auction. It’s going to be an awesome event!
I even heard a rumor that that the cable station LOGO is sending someone out to cover the events on Saturday. Way Cool!
It’s no longer a rumor about LOGO — we got confirmation that they’re flying in Friday evening or Saturday morning!
This is an excellent opportunity for Western New York to really SHINE in the name of civil rights!
