Hey WXXI new bureau - am I missing something in this story?

Well the essence of the story is true. Eric Massa is the top fund raiser in the Rochester area but check this out.

ROCHESTER, NY (2008-04-16) According to the Federal Election Commission, candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives in New York have raised more than 25-million dollars — and spent more than 14-million since January of 2007.

In the Rochester area, the top fund raiser so far is Democrat Eric Massa of Corning. He’s a Democrat running against Republican incumbent Randy Kuhl in the 29th District. Massa has raised 620-thousand dollars according to FEC filings. A second Democrat — David Nachbar — has raised about 215-thousand. Congressman Kuhl has raised more than half a million dollars for his re-election bid.

OK - Something is amiss. Can you guess what it is? Well that David Nachbar is not running for Congress. That his 215K was raised last year - 15K from friends and 200K from himself. All of which he was going to return as I recall after he dropped out.

So what is the point here?

Just asking.

It’s Public Broadcasting’s way of kissing the behind of a corporate sponsor, in this case, Bausch and Lomb.

I’m not sure that is it. I’m think someone just pulled a list and “cut and paste” it not some story pro forma.
