Kuhl being a bit melodramatic? Kuhl getting a Primary opponent or using that as an excuse not to debate Massa

Debate is healthy between two candidates - Right? Well, How about a series of debates between Randy Kuhl and Eric Massa? From a Messenger Post article.

Citing a “major hurdle” of getting enough signatures to appear on the ballot in November, Rep. Randy Kuhl, R-Hammondsport, said yesterday that he would like to participate in debates with Democratic rival Eric Massa, but not for a few months.

Massa formally issued a challenge to Kuhl earlier this week, saying he wants to debate the incumbent at least once in each of the eight counties that are part of the 29th Congressional District before the November elections. Massa said Kuhl can pick the time and place to accommodate his congressional schedule.

Um, what does this mean? Randy might not get enough signatures to get on the ballot? I simply find that hard to believe. But the article continues

During a weekly conference call with the media, Kuhl said it would be premature to agree to debates before primaries, which are scheduled for early September.

There are no challengers to either Kuhl or Massa for their party’s nomination.

I can understand waiting until a few months but until after the primaries? Come on Randy. That is ridiculous. Especially if there are NO PRIMARY CANDIDATES.

Remember, it is difficult to run away from your record of enabling George Bush’s policies if your are superglued to them. Oh Randy, might want to start raising money too.

Meanwhile all you media types that serve the 29th Congressional - We have had lots , I mean lots of Democratic and Republican Presidential debates. Why can’t we have a series of debates in the NY 29th? While you are at it, include the other Congressional districts around here. I would hope our media types and the associated Editorial pages do not accept No for an answer.

Debate is good. Complacency is not.
