Monroe County push poll?
A reader writes:
I just got polled by the Terrence Organization. I think it was a poll on behalf of Maggie Brooks and Cheryl Dinolfo.
Questions were favorable/unfavorable on a set of politicians (Brooks, DiNolfo, Clinton, Paterson). McCain vs. Hillary, McCain vs. Obama. Then, a whole bunch of questions about solutions to the tax issue: what alternatives I’d consider to raising property taxes. These included sales tax and payroll tax. Questions also included selling water district to private industry, sewer district to private industry, having a suburban police force paid for by the suburbs, having a park authority as a separate line item on taxes, having libraries as a separate authority and line item, etc.
Some of the questions were a bit “pushy”. For example, on the FAIR tax, they described the county’s loss as “a set of judges outside Monroe County ruled against the County FAIR plan”.

I think a better term for “pushy” would be “biased in tone” or “leading”. Of course people who aren’t critical thinkers are going to get upset that judges from outside the area are making rulings about local issues that impact them. The question is designed to rile people up. Maggie Brooks et al are so unethical!
Did they ask you whose face you would prefer to see on Mt. Rushmore? Cheryl’s or Maggies?

Definitely Cheryl DiNolfo. She’s got the right idea for for our beleaguered city: Renew Monroe. Sounds nice, right? Fresh, clean… ahhh, sweet renewal. Exactly what we need.
