Bellavamania!
Over at TAP, Robert Harding is fired up and ready to go about the possibility of David Bellavia winning the Republican nomination in NY-26. He finds Mr. Bellavia inexplicably comparing John McCain to Tiger Woods on audio:
You can have your Tiger Woods. We’ve got Senator McCain.
Harding believes this might have been part of some misguided attempt to equate Tiger Woods with Barack Obama, but I think it might have just been nonsensical cheerleading. Harding believes that running a campaign based on support for the continued occupation of Iraq is nothing less than a form of political suicide:
Make no mistake, the only issue Bellavia has is the war. AND - he’s on the wrong side of the debate. The rhetoric at this rally tells the whole story. This is what Bellavia believes. He wants the war continue, which will cost us dearly in soldiers and in money that could be used to provide health insurance to children or give us low cost prescription drugs.
So please, Republicans throughout the 26th: RUN THIS GUY! We will thank you in November.
I agree completely. Frankly, I admire Bellavia for trumpeting his support for the war in an area that violently opposes it. But it does make him a very weak candidate in a general election.
