If you’re gonna talk the talk….

On Tuesday, April 29th, people from all over New York State will converge on Albany for LGBT Equality and Justice Day:

On Tuesday, April 29, 2008 join hundreds of New Yorkers who will be traveling to Albany to help win marriage equality, transgender non-discrimination protections, safe schools for LGBT youth, and more funding for our community’s health and human services needs.Last year we brought more than 1100 people from all across New York to make sure that our elected officials in Albany saw first hand the power and determination of our community and our allies. This year will be even bigger—be a part of this historic day.Don’t worry if you’ve never lobbied a legislator. We will provide you with the training you need. For some of you, going to Albanymeans that you have to take a day off from work, and that isn’t always easy. But we won’t win this civil rights struggle unless we all come together at critical moments to show our community’s strength.

A couple of weeks back, I attended this forum which addressed the county of Monroe’s appeal to the court’s decision to recognize same sex marriages which have been officiated in other States.  Now, this is an issue which I feel very strongly about.  As I have said in the past, my rights are not protected until every-one’s rights are protected.  We have an opportunity, as progressives, to lobby our state legislators and let them know where we stand, that basic human rights belong to everyone, regardless of Race, Creed, Gender or Sexual Orientation.  Buses will be leaving, early in the morning, from Rochester.  It’s the right thing to do.

Let’s walk the walk.
