Too much democracy?
There is just too much democracy going on. Run for your lives, voters! Randy Kuhl is putting off debating Eric Massa, David Dunning (Chili Supervisor) switched parties this week from Democrat to Republican, citing the ease with which having all the board from the same party would afford him, and Hillary Clinton is encouraged to get out of the race even though she is polling neck and neck with McCain and Obama.
Why is everyone being so wimpy? Kuhl should welcome the chance to debate Massa, Dunning should have led instead of changing parties in order to get consensus, and Hillary most certainly has made the race for president a stronger one for the Democrats by making Obama bring his A game.
Today is the 40th anniversary of the assasination of Martin Luther King, jr., who fought for democratic ideals for everyone. It is therefore appropriate to quote his friend and colleague in the democratic struggle, Jesse Jackson:
“Deliberation and debate is the way you stir the soul of our democracy.“ I agree. Game on.

A little early for debates. If Massa doesn’t win, he’ll be calling for debates for 2010 the day after the 2008 election.
Good post. Though I don’t quite agree about Hillary.
Why is it early for debates?
I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I think it gives voters a chance to be truly informed and engaged instead of sleep walking through the primaries. People are focused on this race in ways they would not be if we had the candidate chosen already. I think it’s always good to get the populace more engaged in the issues and the earlier the better. Stir that soul of democracy.
People in general have short attention spans - debates are much more productive as the election draws closer
Tell that to Maggie Brooks. Public debate is disallowed. Public comment is denied. Public access doesn’t exist.
Debate that.
Sorry - thought we were talking about Kuhl and Massa
Yeah, it’s amazing how much the GOP electeds are SO much alike, isn’t it?
Problem is that Kuhl has debated Massa (I attended one last time) - and they’ll do it again this time
Difference is Massa will win. That’s the good thing about tenacity and DURATION. Eventually people get to know you, and LIKE you - and Massa is both tenacious, and likeable.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRandy on the other hand brings us switch grass and woodchips for our gas tanks.
Yeah, this will be one hell of a debate. Count me in the audience for that one!
Glad you can tell the future - perhaps we don’t need debates as the election is already settled. We’ll see come November
See - you knew it all along and wasted time trying to make another worthless point…
