Anarchy in the 315
Yesterday, we told you about the host of possible Republican candidates who are getting into NY-25. Punk rocker/Ron Paul enthusiast David Gay is making it official:
A letter from David Gay:
I am writing this letter to inform the citizens of Central New York of my intention to challenge Dan Maffei for the 25th district of New York State in the U.S. House of Representatives.
I am particularly amazed that no one else in this district has stepped forward to contend for the seat on behalf of our beloved Republican Party.
I guess now that all the serious candidates have bowed out on the Republican side, amateur hour has begun. This should be a lot of fun.
Update: As pointed out in the comments, I left out the best part:
I will defeat my opponent using no other guide for my campaign than the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. In Congress I will work relentlessly in defense of our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I believe we should eliminate the income tax, stop taxing Social Security pensions, respect private property, secure our national borders, stop government spending with credit we can never afford to repay, and bring our troops home from all over the world immediately.

You left out the best part:
Other than eliminating income tax, the rest of that is stuff isn’t so crazy and will certainly make for interesting debates when another Republican challenges him.
So basically, he’s adopted the Ron Paul platform. Unless he starts spouting troofer nonsense, he’ll probably garner some support within the district. I’m not saying he’ll win but Libertarian ideas are becoming more popular all the time.
I agree with both of you on this. While I don’t agree with Gay’s positions, they are more consistent than the Republican party’s in general. I hope he stays in this.
Thanks for your comments! Let me assure you that I am NOT a 9-11 Truther.
I stand firm on my convictions, and the elimination of the income tax is something I believe in as a long ter goal for our society… I’m not saying you’re going to wake up some morning and “boom” the income tax will be gone, but working to eliminate it is important to me.
-Dave Gay
Thanks for commenting. And I meant no disrespect when I described you as an “amateur”. While I don’t agree with your policy positions, I respect that you are honest about them and wish you luck in your primary.
Dave, as someone who’s pretty sympathetic to a lot of libertarian positions, I would suggest that sweeping statements about eliminating income taxes come off as “crazy talk” unless you have a replacement in mind.
hopefully he will stay in the race after his inevitable loss in the GOP primary.

That’s all I have to say.
Probably the best blog entry title in a while, exile - hitting both the punk and anarcho-libertarian notes.
Thanks. If this guy stays in the race, I’ll have to figure out a way to work “Janie Jones” and “Holidays In the Sun” into a post title.
