Steve Minarik - a few candidates short of a field
Check out his comments at CQ Politics on “this maffei guy”. The article is about the failure of the GOP to recruit a candidate to run for Walsh’s seat.
Minarik - in a blinding flash of the obvious said
Republicans will have to restart the process of vetting potential candidates with Cappuccilli out of the race.
Remember - Maffei barely lost to Walsh in 2006. 50.8% to 49.2%
Steve was asked about Maffei’s chances in 2008.
“I don’t think he has — this Maffei guy — has caught on very much. There’s not that overwhelming love from the Democrats, at least in my neck of the woods, so I don’t see it. I don’t see where we’re at that much of a disadvantage,†Minarik said.
This from the architect of worse GOP loss in New York State history. Maffei’s camp responded
Carrie James, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said: “It’s a laughable that Steve Minarik who led the New York GOP statewide to its worst defeat in its history has any comments on the viability of Democrats in any region of New York. Dan Maffei has not only cleared the Democratic field, but the Republicans have failed to recruit a viable candidate to run against him.â€

“…at least in my neck of the woods”
Quote of the year!
His neck of the woods? That Maffei guy carried Webster and Irondequoit. Doesn’t that Minarik guy and the Brooks girl live in the district? Why don’t either of them run? I think the only votes Minarik would get are from those patronage jobs.
