Jon Powers addresses N.O.W. issue

Today’s D&C ran an a critical piece on Jon Powers about his support for women’s rights and same-sex marriage. This report has been rebutted by Jon Powers’ campaign:

STATEMENT BY THE POWERS CAMPAIGN ON ALICE KRYZAN’S LATEST ATTACKS

“It is truly disturbing if Alice Kryzan condones this cheap political attack on Jon Powers for earning a ‘hero’s welcome’ from a local, faith-based community group. The Ancient Order of Hibernians, a local Irish Catholic club in Buffalo, honored Jon as their “Man of the Year” while Jon served his country as an Army officer in Iraq. Jon’s own father is a member of the club; even President John F. Kennedy was a member of the Hibernians. Jon’s hometown embraced him, honoring his service to his country – only to be attacked in a political campaign. Clearly, those who are attacking Jon Powers have much to learn about the sense of community we value here in Western New York.”

Powers for Congress

I spoke with Jon Powers on the phone this evening and he stated that he fully supports women’s rights, he has a great relationship with Planned Parenthood, and that in 2003, when he received the award from The Hibernians, the leadership was different and the requirements were only that you had to be Irish and Catholic. The new leadership is different and therefore the rules to be given the award are different.

Powers’ camp said that Kryzan’s attack is a “cheap shot.”

That D&C article quotes a Linda Stevens. The same one named in the lawsuit against the town of Greece for prayer. Seems to me like Alice Kryzan and Linda Stevens have an agenda against anything religious, even when it’s innocent.

What did the Catholics ever do to them?

You should ask Publius. He’s 1691/Gary Pudup on the D&C boards.

I believe he knows what Linda Stephens’ agenda is.

John Powers is a wonderful human being, and I do believe Linda’s attack is a cheap shot.
